This is definitely my favourite place in London for sushi and sashimi! Amazing atmosphere, quiet and relaxing. The fishes are of high quality and dishes are well thought of and very balanced.

*UPDATED AT END* Big problem I had - there was a massive bone in my yellowtail sushi roll. In the pictures you can see it. It’s quite dangerous because it was bundled in the sushi roll and you don’t expect bone in there (I have never ever in my life had bone in any sashimi, and never expected any, especially in quite an expensive restaurant like this). I told the waiter and he took the plate away saying he’d show the chef, but he never came back with any follow up. I assumed they just wanted to get rid of it because it was a pretty dangerous mistake. That was probably my only gripe, hope the sushi chef learns from this. Apart from that, nice setting and atmosphere, staff was decent as well. The starters and sushi were nice, I really liked the scallop sashimi, very sweet and fresh. My friends who got the gyudon and crispy chicken bowl said those were terrible, little meat and too much rice. Some updates: I hadn’t seen the reply Maido made to this review previously. They apparently contacted my friend who made the booking, with a pretty rude tone on email, asking her to get me to take this review down. Make what you want of this.. :/

We made a reservation after seeing the high ratings, and since we visited around lunchtime, the place wasn’t too crowded. They have an open counter where you can clearly watch everything being prepared, which adds a nice sense of transparency. We tried several rolls; among the signature ones, the Fire Prawn Tempura Roll and Dynamite Crab were absolutely amazing. The Inside Out rolls were also excellent. All the ingredients were very fresh and high quality, and the small sauces on top complemented the flavors perfectly. The service was quick as well. For this level of quality at these prices, it was truly an outstanding experience in London. Highly recommended.

Fantastic service and excellent food. I love the set menus as you are able to try different selections. the rolls are a must to order! the soft shell crab tempura roll was my favorite! The restaurant offers both takeaway and dine-in, but seating is limited, so be sure to reserve in advance. Absolutely looking forward to my next visit!

Great sushi spot on Saint John’s Wood ! First, the sushi and the rest of the menu are truly delicious. I sorted at the counter and I had a great experience. Second, the architecture is beautiful. Very contemporary. I have to come back ! I recommend this place if you are around or after going to primrose hill for the sunset. The restaurant is also doing takeaway. I will come back !

Some of the best quality, tasting and priced sushi we’ve ever had. Usually eating sushi, especially in London, ends up being ridiculously expensive. Not at Maido! Very reasonably priced. Flavours and portion sizes were all phenomenal. The eel with rice was a particular highlight, but the fatty tuna rolls really stole the show. Super fun also to sit up at the bar and the restaurant is a great vibe! Will be coming back often!

Sushi was wonderful. The quality of the fish was on point. The service was even better. We loved that everyone remembered us. They even called me when I forgot my phone here. Terrific place. Fun atmosphere.

Wow! Having moved to London two months ago I have struggled to find a good quality sushi restaurant that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, who knew I have one right on my doorstep in St John's Wood! I loved the decor and was warmly greeted by friendly, hospitable staff, the service was great, especially given how busy they were and the food was beautifully presented with the flavour to match, there isn't a dish we ordered that I wouldn't order again! We ordered yellowtail carpaccio and the aubergine miso, along with a couple gorgeous salads and some maki rolls, all cooked to perfection! I would also definitely recommend staying for dessert, we ordered two to share and both were delicious! Overall, a great experience as I told the owner when he came over to introduce himself to our table and thank us for our custom, seems like a great guy and told him we will be back, the sooner the better!

I had a lovely lunch with a couple of my friends. I'm not a fan of sushi because I don't eat fish. But there was enough to satisfy my super picky needs - I'm a vegetarian who doesn't like tofu! There is a large take-away section as well so you can take sushi back to work, or home for dinner. I wrote an article for my blog so am sharing some of those pictures with you.

The restaurant exceeded our expectations! We chose this restaurant due its beautiful interiorΒ but the delicious food made the experience even better. The atmosphere was comfortable, warm and welcoming. We reserved a table for my birthday and Muhammed and his staff made sure it was extra special. I would highly recommend giving Maido a visit, you won't be disappointed! I will definitely be going back!
