I'm from canada. I read that this was the best place in Walsall. I made my husband take me here and I was not disappointed. Best Fish and chips i've had in england !!!! I can't believe what you get for the price in england. What? I got there for about 20 pounds.Would be about a hundred dollars in canada. I will definitely be back.
Went at lunch time today had chicken and mushroom pie Absolutely freezing cold perhaps owner was worried about £5 pound minimum spend in card perhaps he should pay more attention to the temperature of food he is serving to the public avoid at all costs
20 min wait in shop, not a problem they were busy. Mixed meat and chips. Chips hot, all the meat was stone cold!! I live 30 seconds from the shop. So not the travel getting it cold. Not impressed.
Second time in a row been disappointed with our order and will not be ordering from here again! Fish was dry, kebab hardly any salad or sauce, last time no salad with the kebab at all. Second chance but wished we’d ordered from somewhere else!!!
This chip shop varies too much in quality, sometimes the chips are ok, never great! but they are often soggy and greasy. The fish is average and staff can be a bit miserable. Aldridge chippy 1 is much better or the mermaid fish in the high st do golden battered chips to die for.
What a fish!! Having travelled extensively over the UK, I have come across many great chip shops. Some with great service, some with great food but I have NEVER had a simple cod cooked so perfect!!! The batter was so crispy that when I bit into it the crunch gave me tinnitus
Called to place order. Rather relaxed and unprofessional manner on the phone. The employee did not seem to know what she was doing and could be heard asking a colleague if an order could be placed over the phone. Told would be 15 minutes before ready. This last point I’ll return to. Ordered a doner kebab and chips, a roe and a mini fish special with curry sauce. Promptly turned up 15 minutes and the order was ready packaged and kept “warm” in the heated cabinet. Upon driving home (literally 2 minutes) we eagerly and hungrily opened our white food parcels. So, returning to that 15 minute wait time. You would think this meant that they were either busy and/or needed time to prep and drop some more food in the fryer. Sadly, what seems to be the case is that they needed to dig up some old cold food and drop that in a fryer that was not hot enough. The doner kebab meat was luke warm, the pita beard was a low quality fare and chewy. The chips were equally tepid, dark in colour with chunks of burnt tough pieces mixed in. They were definitely reheated. The insides were hard, not fluffy and both inside and out were very greasy. The fish was tiny, dry and chewy and the batter was greasy enough to leave small pools on the plate. My serated knife couldn’t cut the batter and I had to pull it apart. Small note to anyone who doesn’t know how a deep fat fryer works, if the food is greasy, IT Is NOWHERE NEAR HOT ENOUGH. The food should be CRISP and DRY! There is no excuse for any CHIPPY, to get the Great British favourite SOOOO INCREDIBLY wrong and charge you £14 for the displeasure. If you want to know what proper the British fare should be like, go to Aldridge Chippy in the village by Morrisons. Avoid this place like the plague.
Clean place, great staff, always give good portions. Have always gone there over last 3 years as have been far better than others in the area. However, last 4 times in a row (latest the other day) the quality just hasn't been there. Kept going back due to past good experiences but sadly the chips are now either too dry or tasteless & the batter on the fish either too hard or greasy, end up throwing half away each time. Don't know what they're doing differently but they need to stop. Going to have to give it a miss now for a while
