Having heard so much about The Codfather and having seen several well-received TikTok videos showcasing the inner workings of the shop, I had to satisfy my curiosity with a visit. At first glance, the shop is a spacious, standalone building with dedicated parking at the front and ample street parking on a quiet side road. Inside, it is roomy, clean, and well-organised, pleasant, and friendly staff ready to take the order. The Special Fish (haddock) was quite large but a bit of a let-down, due to the beef dripping not having had a chance to drain before serving, which resulted in a lot of excess grease soaking through the paper and leaving the batter damp in places. The same applied to the chips, which, regardless, were plump, tasty, and plentiful. However, the batter on the fish was flavourful. What stood out the most was the quality of the fish itself — fresh, white, plump, and delicious. This wasn’t just the case with the Special Fish, but also with the massive fish, chips, and mushy pea bread cake, with the fish cooked to perfection, thick and flaky. The Irish curry sauce, although a little on the sweet side, still had a pleasant kick to it and was packed with flavour. There was plenty of it, too. I visited The Codfather for the first time since moving to Wakefield on the hunt for my new local chippy - and wow! I was not disappointed. Service was exceptional, price is very reasonable and the fish & chips were delightful! I had haddock which was really tasty and so many chips! Loved that the shop is decorated for Halloween & all the staff were so nice. Defo worthy of a visit.

Excellent quality! Fish bites were crispy and the chips cooked in tallow are next level. It was worth the journey for the fishcake alone. The lady behind the counter was lovely too. Can't wait to go back!

Absolutely amazing fish and chips here. I haven't tasted fish and chips this good outside the M25 for years! This took me back to my old local in Norbury. This meaty fish literally melts in your mouth and the batter has a flavour all on its own, nice and crispy on the fish. Overall.. great portion for the price, which makes this amazing value for money. I can't rate it any higher. Pity I live so far away otherwise I'd est here everyday! Sorry for the late review guys (22/10/22) I've been busy but a promise is a promise.

Changed to five stars. The young lad working the fryer is brilliant at queue control and the lady who served me has great friendly banter. Just the atmosphere I remember and love from a chippy experience. This is a dying art in the times of online app ordering and anonymous deliveries of cold expensive food. Keep up the good work and see you again soon!
