Just done a night shift at the local hospital and all I wanted was to get to a warm room and sleep. The woman at the reception was as warm as an ice cube. She explained I needed to pay " the balance" when I know I paid for the room online and only needed to pay some small amount for the early check in. Eventually it transpired they take a security deposit which is refundable after you check out. This is fine but then say it don't call it "balance" and only explain when a customer questions it. She also made me wait untill the official time of 12 without checking if the room was ready earlier. When I asked how the heating system works (on a freezing day) she just said it is "on a timer" whatever it means. I arrived to the room and found the radiator stone cold. Had to push the bed away to actually get to the radiator and turn it on. That's fine but say it. Explain don't just fob me off. You will be OK if you survive the reception.

Went in with a close friend for a quick drink and was amazed by the amazing atmosphere. Our server was outstanding and we were treated with respect. I would recommend if you are stopping by or a local.

Staff were incredibly warm and accommodating, the room was beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and excellent value for money. The on-site restaurant was a real highlight too, delicious food and again great value for money. A great stay all round.

Wasn’t overly keen on this place, the receptionist was a bit rude, stairs are treacherous, like a remake of “death becomes her” and the menu in the restaurant seemed to be missing healthier options for meals that you’d normally expect. The room/restaurant was lovely but a little tired in places, not the worst place but it could easily be better.

Have just had a 3 night stay and it was absolutely amazing. Hotel clean and tidy, staff couldn’t have been anymore friendly and helpful and the food was so good. A special Thankyou to Helen who greeted me on my birthday morning in the restaurant with lovely birthday wishes and a lovely card from all at The Lion. Was so lovely and thoughtful. Many thanks to you all.

Was quite disappointed.. visited with my partner who was staying over on business. The rooms were nice but were freezing.. freezing everywhere. Food was awful I'm not sure why everything was bad.. hopefully a bad day.

Friendly and helpful staff. Room was clean and well stocked. Enjoyed my stay there of three nights. Restaurant had plenty of choice and the portions were generous and prompt. Bar has a good selection of drinks. Recommended.
