Always good service and their fish and chips are always nice and they are good sized portions unlike a lot of others.

Fish nice , chips greasy and soggy queued for 15 minutes because service too slow. Probably the reason for soggy chips too. Far too many chips for 1 person.

England's food Reviews ★★☆☆☆
Arrived at Tony's chip shop today I was hoping that the little Chip Shop would be an absolute gem in a rough area. I wasn't actually planning to do a review today I was just out for dinner but on shock of what you get for your money I thought I've got to review. When in the chip shop I was trying to look to see where it would tell me the different sizes of chips you can buy and I was told they don't do different sizes only one size and after seeing how much I was actually going to get I asked how much is that and the lady said it is £2.40 the large battered sausage was £2.00. Before I was told the price of the chips I was already thinking about buying a second bag because the portion size was tiny that is what most chip shops would call a cone of chips which you would pay just over a pound for but when I found out it was £2.40 for that small bag I thought I'm not parting with any more money I'll just have to test them with what there is and also call it dinner. I had salt and vinegar on top as well this was put on by the staff you can see there was enough salt to give me a heart attack. There was probably around 30 chips. There was no forks out at the chip shop luckily I'd got my own. The chips were very greasy cooked but very mushy and filled with grease. The battered sausage was also oozing grease but the batter was nice. As I've said once before on other reviews greasy chips happens when the oil is not up to temperature and the food is put in too early once the oil is up to temperature it will seal the chips and cook them making them nice and fluffy inside and not soaked with oil. For £4.40 in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire you could get large chips and sausage here in Yorkshire you will get a cone of chips and sausage. Whether it is just this chip shop or the chip shops in Yorkshire are axpensive as I have found this is the case once before we're the portion was slightly bigger but also more expensive I think that battered sausage that day was £2.40 and the chips were a lot more expensive too. Well dinner has left me feeling not so great and wishing I had a nice hot cup of Yorkshire tea or a nice coffee to wash that grease down with but I don't. Glad I didn't buy a second small portion of chips.

Highly recommend this down to earth, friendly, reasonably priced, good quality, fish and chip shop. After seeing the 1 star comment from a critic with no knowledge of food I would just like to say I was trained by the late Gary Rhodes to Mitchelin star standard and worked at Rhodes & Co brasseries in Manchester so I know food. There are few competitors in this area who can match the fine batter and quality taste produced by tony`s chippy. Don`t just take my word for it try for yourself and compare the quality and price to the competitors. Personally I prefer the good taste of Tony`s to any other in this area.

The only reason I can fathom as to why people are leaving this place five stars is that they only have one working taste bud remaining. Literally, the worst chips on the face of this planet. Avoid at all costs.
