Today, December 21, 2025, my family and I went to eat at Toby Carvery's in Dronfield, a place we love. I must say the food was fresh and delicious, absolutely everything. However, the waitress's service was very tense and unpleasant. From the moment she took our drinks, she gave us a dirty look when I told her I wouldn't be ordering separate plates for my two- and three-year-old daughters, but would share mine with them. She made a very rude gesture, and that's when it all started. She began staring at us—that would be the right word. My wife got up to get more vegetables and just stood there staring at us, not taking her eyes off us. We really didn't feel comfortable. We wanted to order dessert, but she didn't even ask us to; she just gave us a receipt to pay. We decided to leave, as it seemed the waitress didn't appreciate our presence in the restaurant. It was very uncomfortable at a chain restaurant we frequent, but this place was our first and last time.

Booked a table for 12 noon . Hardly anybody there at this time but we were made to wait before being shown our table which wasn't good ( seemed understaffed) . Even when we say down again made to wait and eventually had to call for waitress. Food made up for it I suppose as carvery very good quality ( not cheap mind at £16 per head!) only spoilt by lumpy mash potatoes. Will go again but in midweek when £5 a head cheaper! You only get lamb on Saturday and Sunday by the way. Just hope service is a lot better.

Great like any other Toby, I visited with a bigger group of people (around 30) very accommodating and good customer service. Food does stop being available at around 11-11:10am so be sure to keep this in mind. Drinks are not included in the all you can eat breakfast so you do have to order them separately. Fairly quiate on a Saturday morning. ..... Great yorkshire puddings......

Excellent all round. Despite staff shortages due to staff illness we were looked after very well. Carvery chef was a lovely chap and was working fast to manage the queue. Glad we booked a 4.30 table as it was extremely busy when we left at about 5.30pm. Food quality was excellent and an unbelievably good price using 50% off voucher.

Starting with the food… generally the food available was excellent. We travelled from the south coast to visit family and your meals are far tastier in my opinion, and the welcome of course was brilliant!! Unfortunately there was no bread sauce and some of the sweets were unavailable but this doesn’t detract from the excellent service!! I have an autistic son and he visited your vegetable counter a number of times and your server ‘Omar’ (??) was superb looking after him at each visit. May I also thank your server ‘Beverley’ who was extremely polite, pleasant and friendly throughout. Unfortunately, many outlets only receive negative feedback but I felt compelled to add this feedback this evening. Superb evening, thankyou so much for a memorable visit. I was here to visit my elderly mother and tonight rounded off our visit perfectly. I am a regular customer of your Bournemouth and Poole branches. I do hope they can match your northern colleagues, nevertheless, they too have served us well. Sincere regards.

Called in for a drink at around 7.40 pm. On arrival we were approached and asked abruptly if we had booked. We said no as we only wanted a drink. There were several empty tables but were informed they were fully booked. We stated again we only wanted a drink. Staff made it pretty clear that we were not welcome as they wanted to clear down and go home. The empty tables were not refilled. We left at around 9.40pm and I doubt we will ever return. Having worked in hospitality for many years I would have been appalled if any member of staff had made my customers feel so unwelcome. It is such a shame we have come to this. There is no wonder the hospitality industry is struggling as staff no longer know the meaning of hospitality. I wonder if the management is aware how their clientele are treated or if this is new protocol.

We come to Toby Carvery a lot but this venue was especially excellent. Every single member of staff was bubbly, friendly and attentive. We were sat fast, served fast and had drinks fast. The quality of the food was excellent. All meats and veg were fresh and moist and very tasty. The staff seemed genuinely happy at work and were laughing with us and eachother as a team. Lovely environment all around.

Excellent food and brilliant staff. Very well priced as well as availability of great tap beers. Was a very fine line between giving it 4 or 5 stars on the previous visit but with full availability of some good draft beers now, my family will continue to go back again for the scrumptious roasts that are available. The attached photo says it all really.
