Dropped in for a pre theatre bite to eat. We booked which was wise. By the time we left, there was a queue. As the name suggests it was originally a gym and now serves a German orientated menu. Very efficient service meant the meal arrived super quick and relieved the anxiety associated with pre theatre dining. Excellent schnitzel and lovely desserts. Good beer. Will go again.

Went for hot drinks so we didn't have food but I have to say I wouldn't eat there considering how filthy it was. We arrived at opening so it's not as if there had been hours of customers through the door. The hot chocolate was also on par with a sachet you add hot water to. The area in which we were seated was very tired & cramped. I understand they dont make much money from people just having a drink but as a 'grand cafe' the atmosphere/seating could be better.

German Gymnasium is worth visiting even just for its architecture. The building is beautiful and grand - impressive without feeling intimidating. We visited so as to try their Oktoberfest menu, and the experience was a bit of a hit and miss. The Kässpätzle was a little too stodgy for our taste, but the roast meat was excellent; perfectly cooked and full of flavour. What really stood out, though, was the service: attentive, friendly, and impeccable throughout.

Booked a table at German Gymnasium last minute on Sunday and had a great time. The food was exceptional and the service was spot on. The staff were really attentive and even stored our luggage while we ate, which was a nice touch. We ordered a couple of pints of lager that turned out to be quite flat, but we didn’t realise until our third round that it wasn’t meant to taste like that. We mentioned it to the team, who confirmed it was just a bad batch and kindly took the two off the bill. Overall, a really enjoyable meal with great food and friendly service – would happily visit again.

Excellent European feels right outside King’s Cross & St. Pancras station. The Kasekrainer was the best pork sausage I’ve tasted yet. Add to this - Quick efficient and friendly service and we have a winner. Well done! If I were to nitpick - it would be about the 13.5% service charge, which wasn’t optional as per the bill. But i did not ask if it was optional. Pretty steep, might I add. Will definitely try this place again.

Absolutely amazing. Vegan redefine meat options were just delicious as were the mocktails. Service was attentive and pleasant. They have a dedicated luggage area if you're travelling. One of the pricier options but worth every bit. Very highly recommend.

Service started out ok, we ordered drinks and mains which didn't take a noticeable length of time, but there after it went downhill. Very basic things were missed here. For example, when you clear the plates 'would you like to see the desert menu' being one of them. We waited and waited, I eventually asked and we were given the menu but then no one came to take our order before a rude man told us we needed to leave, we were past our allotted time frame. I totally understand the need for this, but surely when you have only served one course and one bottle of wine to 5 people in two hours, and we are all sat there with menus in front of us, something may have gone wrong? . After a bit of back and forth he walked away leaving us unaware if we needed to leave or not, they hadn't brought over the bill or anything..? The most bizarre thing about this experience is that we were prepared to spend a lot more money but the slow service meant that this wasn't an option. Making sure a table has enough to drink is surely a really basic point of service, no? We would have undoubtedly had another bottle of wine or even 2 more, but we had no idea what was going on or had the opportunity to ask, certainly nobody asked us. I managed to ask for some more water, 1 bottle between 5 doesn't stretch that far. I have never experienced being so desperate for some form of hydration in a restaurant, it was unbelievable. We had to leave quick so that we could go somewhere else and actually get served a drink sometime within the hour. Overall the food and ambience was good, but such poor service just leaves a nasty taste in your mouth.

Atmosphere inside the venue is lovely. A great buzz and a grand interior. Service was super efficient. The menu is simple and comes from the category ‘foods you have with beer’. I had the vegan kebab and I must say I was underwhelmed. Disappointingly, there was no flavour to it at all. Giving four stars as I have been here before and the food was much better.

Already want to go back! This has been on my list for a long time and I can say it was worth the wait! Herring and shrimp cocktail for starters. Both good wouldn’t say they were out of this world, but good. I really enjoyed the chicken schnitzel. For dessert I had the Mont Blanc tart which was not so rich, and so a very nice dessert. The Black Forest coupe was a really nice way to finish off the meal, the cherry sorbet was so refreshing. I have to say the service here is very good, the staff are very attentive and friendly!
