If you visit Altrincham and like decent Belgium beer, etc you need to try this place, also has a real fire and the food is very good too.

Such a cosy little bar with amazing service and an amazing choice of European beers! We visited a couple of weeks ago for my birthday and it just felt so lovely and cosy and we were so very well looked after. I’d recommend this if you’re interested in beer and you’re in central Altrincham looking for something a bit different to your local

Here’s the thing… We met friends on an impromptu after work drink that kinda turned into an evening out. We had a few great beers here, they have a good international selection. As we all know that drinking with empty bellies leads to trouble so we grabbed a couple of the Giro’s - chicken / Halloumi. Wowzers… They were delicious, simple maybe but made with love and care - completely ‘hit the spot’. It’s a good place although the servers seemed a little laissez-faire and need direction, the venue and toilets would benefit from a little more love but we will definitely be back to sample more of the tapas menu. Thank you

We stumbled upon this charming Belgian-style bar while out for a few drinks in Altrincham with my wife—and what a fantastic find! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a traditional Belgian vibe that adds real character. The drinks were excellent, and although we didn’t try the food (we’d already eaten), it looked delicious and well-presented. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area!

Delicious food. I don’t eat meat or eggs I usually have a limited choice but I had plenty to chose from. My friend and I had 3 tapas each we struggled to eat everything due to generous portion size. Great friendly service. Fabulous will definitely be returning.

We stumbled across this by chance and couldn't resist popping in for a few drinks. A good selection of Belgian beers and a nice warm fire provided a welcome break. Very welcoming and chatty owner who was able to recommend a few other places to check out. Table service for drinks. They also serve food.

We had a lovely evening here. Great selection of beers. Beautiful food. Can highly recommend the spinach and feta filo parcels and the honeyed goats cheese.

05/08/22: I've been coming to the Belgian Bar, formerly La Trappiste on Greenwood Street, since I moved to Altrincham in 1995. It closed as La Trappiste on 29th October 2011 and rebranded with a facelift as The Belgian Bar. It's still the same quirky curio of a place as it always was, with it's wood interior, traditional Belgian decor and little nooks & crannys on the upper floor. An extensive Belgian Beer menu, something for everyone. Over 10 taps to choose from and a stock of over 300 bottles from Belgium, Europe, UK & Europe. Dog friendly. Welcoming and accommodating staff. Plenty of room outside to sit and relax, plus the warmth of a real fire on Winter days. A nice selection of sandwiches, hot dogs, steak frites, meze and tapas.

Visited Belgian Bar yesterday for the first time and I was astonished about the level of customer service received. Nothing was too much trouble, staff was super friendly (they found a perfect balance of being friendly and not overload the customer with kindness). Although someone went beyond and above to make our table happy and that was David. I have asked for mocktail (not on the menu) thinking I might be faced with 'no' as it happened in few places already, but for David that was not a problem. All evening he was making me the most amazing drinks I could possibly imagine. Blends, taste and attention to details... just wow!!! Thank you so much for accommodating my needs. Left the bar super happy You guys should put those on the menu. Let other people taste what I did!

A nice bar worth a good selection of beers that are a break from the hoppy craft beer norm. Has a few draft and a fairly large menu of bottled beers. It is pretty small and service can be variable, particularly if you time it wrong. But a nice relaxed venue of you get it right.
