Great pub in Chester, went for a Sunday roast and it was pretty decent. More tables around the back but the main section has a great atmosphere

Wonderful old building The room we had was excellent Breakfast was good However to say it's a restaurant is stretching it We had booked a table for 6 pm the pub was very busy and we were plonked in an area in the pub We were under the impression it was a restaurant....no tables are laid and you order your food at the bar ...which was by now 4 deep ... 15 minutes later I got our meal ordered The food was ok but trying to eat a meal with large groups of people standing next to your table and moving chairs around isn't ideal We were resident in the hotel for the weekend and paid over Β£500 but felt that that the staff only wanted as many people in the building to buy drinks from the bar If you want a romantic meal this isn't the place for you The pied bull needs to decide if it's a pub or a restaurant

Stopped there 2 days ago,and the three of us loved the very friendly and hospitable landlords. Local beer is excellent. We'll definately stop in this pub for a meal next time we visit Chester.

I’ve been back and forth to Chester for the past few weeks and tried to eat out as much as possible. Steak and ale pie is normally my go to comfort meal. Without doubt this has been the worst meal I’ve had so far. No sooner had I ordered my pie, it and it appeared in less than 2 minutes. That’s rarely a good sign. Not only was the pie tiny, the pastry was quite chewy. I guess it had been hanging around a while. The chips weren’t great either - quite salty. As for the kale hidden under the tiny pie that was had to be washed down quickly with a drink or risk choking. At Β£20 I expected better, especially as it was more expensive than any of the other pubs I’ve been to. The staff behind the bar were friendly enough but there was absolutely no atmosphere. Perhaps the pub gets busy during the tourist season or on the weekends. Really disappointing compared to the other meals I’ve eaten so far. Maybe I just got unlucky with my meal as the reviews are pretty good.

Really nice public house in an historic building within the town walls; they also have their own onsite micro-brewery with four of their ales on tap when we visited all of which were excellent. The staff are friendly and as we piled in as a group of eight they did their best to accommodate us despite us not having a booking (we had been let down by another pub in Chester that accepted our booking but when we arrived they stated that they didn’t have any room for us) , both for tables and food. The food was very well cooked with a good choice including vegan meals. All in all, a very nicely ran pub with pleasant staff, good ales and food; what more can you ask for?

December 2022: good selection of craft ales from the Pied Bull Brewery. Reputed to be the oldest licenced house, dating back to 1155, still houses the original staircase which dates from 1535. We drank Tangibull pale ale with tangerine and Mint Chocolate Bauballs. Both really tasty and easy drinking. Good service. Dog friendly. **Haunted**

After walking around the Chester Market went for lunch here. It was warm and had a lovely atmosphere. The staff were excellent and have had great customer service training. The food was great and reasonable too.

Great local food, reasonably priced, friendly staff, well maintained and clean pub. Known for pies, I had the steak pie and it was great. Good in house beer too. Had a kids menu also for lunch.

Could not fault the food and ambience in the restaurant. The staff where attentive but not intrusive. The garlic mushrooms with crispy egg was to die for. The veggie option pie was cheese and onion and was filled to the top within a tasty and crispy crust. The restaurant is so much better than the bar in the same building
