For my son’s birthday, we decided to switch things up and dine at Mumbaiwala in Harrow. It’s one of those places I’d strolled past countless times, its unassuming exterior piquing my curiosity with each glance. This time, we took the plunge—and I’m so glad we did. Stepping inside, we were met with a warm, genuine welcome from the staff, who promptly ushered us to our table. It was early evening, the restaurant still quiet, with that soft hum of anticipation you get when you’re the first to arrive. The menu beckoned with vibrant Indian street food and hearty classics, and we dove in with gusto. First up was the Chilli Garlic Masala Mogo—a generous heap of cassava fries, crispy on the outside, tender within, and bursting with a bold, garlicky kick that danced on the tongue. The Sev Puri Chat followed, a delicate stack of crispy puris crowned with tangy chutneys and a whisper of spice—each bite a miniature explosion of flavour. Then came the Masala Lamb Chops, succulent and smoky, marinated to perfection, their juicy tenderness making every chew a celebration. The Lollypop Chicken was a hit with the table—plump drumettes glazed in a sweet-spicy sauce, just fiery enough to keep things interesting, and plentiful enough to share (though I didn’t want to!). We rounded it off with Bhel Puri, a chaotic, delightful jumble of puffed rice, sev, fresh veg, and chutney that somehow came together in perfect harmony. To pair with the feast, I opted for a cool, crisp Madri from their solid lineup of draught beers—refreshing and just the ticket to balance the spices. As we ate, the owner swung by to say hello. A charming, down-to-earth gent, he shared that he’d previously run Punjab Junction, and his passion for food and hospitality shone through. It was a small touch, but it made the meal feel personal, like we were guests in his home. The family left with full bellies and big smiles, and I couldn’t have been happier with our choice. Mumbaiwala’s a gem—unpretentious, affordable, and packed with flavour. Compared to nearby Blue Ginger, where prices climb higher for a similar vibe, this spot feels like a steal. If you’re in Harrow and craving a taste of Indian food that won’t break the bank, do yourself a favour and stop by. Tell them that Jay sent you :-)

Great Indian restaurant with plenty of seating places in Harrow. Specious, which is very rare in London, as in many restaurants seating are very congested. They have unique bar setup and venue provides hall hire with food for private party. Staff and owner are very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended.

More or less of like 3.5 stars.. The food is okay...wont say amazing... Live music is a good experience..but you can enjoy it only once...as they have repeated playlist... so you might get bored the second or third time.tye ambience is not great..they can definitely do with some nice interiors.... Walls are bare.. So overall good for one time go experience...

We had a great experience at this restaurant! The owner was very welcoming and made sure the chef came to speak with us. They were super nice and friendly. I can't eat spicy food, so the chef made special dishes for me without chili, and they were absolutely delicious! My family enjoyed their spicy dishes too. We will definitely be coming back because there is something for everyone here. They also have live singing on Fridays and Bollywood night on Saturdays I think which we're excited to attend soon. Overall, we had a fantastic time and highly recommend this place!

Unfortunately, I did not enjoyed dining at this restaurant. Food was the same one can find in the cheap Chinese restaurants in Spain and pay 12€ per person. Here one pays 35£. The noodles came with burn taste. So definitely not worth the money. I think 20£ per person, at maximum would be a fair price. Dim Sum not recommended. Pork ribs were good.

Such a shame that the quality has gone downhill markedly since the change in ownership in recent years. This used to be our go to Chinese restaurant for 15 years+ and it was always packed and difficult to get a table. However now the standards have dropped sharply, portions have shrunk and prices have skyrocketed (more than expected due to covid etc). Starters often come out within a couple of minutes which leads you to question how fresh the food is. Hard to recommend now, one hopes the new ownership can get its act together.
