Rude staff, long queue, poor service, relative expensive dim sum place. Never again Been here on a Sat between 1300-1430. Still a long queue. Once we ordered, some food is served instantly and we notice they took them out from a plastic box behind the bar. Normally fried items will be hot and are freshly made. Just made me feel like they either a) pre-made already and left there for some time or b) wrongly ordered by customer and put aside until the next order to come and re-serve them. Would like to order a takeaway roasted duck hence kept a menu to read through whilst waiting. Whilst asking the kids wht other stuff they want, the waitress fetched the menu off from us straight away saying menu is not for kids to play. This was so rude. She should have asked before fetching. A bit pissed so not gona anymore. When the food arrives, the waitress just held the food on her hands, stood there, starred at us 'hinting' we need to make space for her. Oh well, she shd have cleared the table before serving or shd have asked nicely, not just plain starring. The Quality of the food is so-so but is more expensive than the onesin China Town. Quite salty ending up drinking a lot water afterwards. Not worth it tbh taking into the dining experience too. Not really recommended.

My friend and I haven’t been to Tai Tung for many years and we decided to travel to Purley Way to eat some good Chinese food. We were not disappointed. The food, mainly the Dim Sum was delicious, especially their crispy Vietnamese spring rolls. The chicken with cashew nuts was fragrant and well cooked and the egg fried rice was yummy. Portions were big enough for two people to share. Prices were very good, total £38 with Chinese tea for two. The service however was not great. We went for an early lunch and the place was quite busy already, so as soon as they saw that we were finished (quite literally chewing our last bite) they brought us the bill, without us asking. 30 seconds later someone came with the card machine for us to pay - again, we hadn’t asked for it. We asked them to give us a few minutes and I went to the Ladies room. When I came back after a few minutes, my friend told me that they had come round for payment 3 times so she felt obliged to pay the whole bill herself, even though we wanted to split it. When I mentioned to the host/manager at the door we felt rushed, his answer was “Yes, this is fast food, you eat and you go!” We could see however some other tables that customers were allowed to stay longer, after they had finished their food - maybe they were regulars? Overall: great food, not a great experience.

When I learned that the Chinese restaurant on Sutton high street has 4.3/5, I feel Tai Tung is overwhelmingly under-rated. I've been here with my mum for numerous times. Although there's minor fluctuation in taste sometimes, overall the food is great and authentic. What makes us becomes repeat customers is that the staff are willing to take comments and offers good services.I really appreciated their kindness.

Various Dim sum choices with clean environment with reasonable price. After enjoy Chinese tea could shop at Big Big Chinese supermarket with different types of Asian food including seafood. Free car parking for limited hours

Update 2025-07-30:- They've changed the parking, they only allow 2 hours parking on ground level in front of the restaurant, if you think you will need longer to eat at the restaurant and/or go to the supermarket make sure you park on the roof level (where they give you 4 hours for free) otherwise they will fine you! I've only been here for dim sum at lunch, the dim sum is actually very good, better than the majority of places in Chinatown in Central London. At lunch time on weekends it gets very busy and you will most likely need to queue. The barbecue meats are also very good.

The food hasn’t been great from the start, it’s really ordinary and bland, everything does taste like nothing. The good thing about this place is when you say hi to the waiters and waitresses then they react and say hi back. It isn’t recommended in my books.

First time here, thought I would try as it was near the Hotel. Food was really tasty. Great portions. Staff were helpful and attentive. Great value for money, would totally recommend a visit.

This was the worst Dim Sum place i have even tried. My partner and I ordered a few types of dim sum. Most of them were very dry and undercooked. Foods came in a slow pace. We finished one dim sum, and the staff came to get the empty plate, then we waited for the next dim sum. I have never tried to eat and wait for the food one by one in the UK. Not only food, but also the tea. The tea came after the food was delivered, and the tea came because we reminded the staffs for few times. If we don’t remind them, they just kept talking with other staffs. The staffs even couldn’t speak any simple English. We had no idea what the staffs here were doing. With low quality foods and pace, the staffs just wanted to push us to finish our food and leave the restaurant, even there was no queue. We were very disappointed about the restaurant. At last, my partner rejected to pay for the tips. The staff used Cantonese asked me the reason ( My partner can only understand English). It made my partner feel very embarrassed because he totally couldn’t understand what the staffs were trying to say. Therefore, I only said the service and food quality were not deserved the tips. Then the staffs spoke in Cantonese to me again : 咁你下次叫takeaway,唔好坐係到食(exact wording)( Translation: Order takeaway next time and don’t sit here). I felt so offended, and my partner, again, was so embarrassed because he had still no idea what the staff was talking. Why not the restaurant just put the tips charge on the bills and set it as a compulsory charge? It is not about money, but respect!

It's been about 2-3 years since we last visited, so we were excited. We went for a birthday celebration today for dimsum around 4pm, with the intention to avoid peak times. Dim sum opening times are now 11am - 4.30pm. There were about 5-6 tables. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We were asked to sanitise hands before entering the restaurant and all staff have been wearing masks throughout. It felt safe enough to dine in. Food is good in general, but some of the portions are getting smaller and prices are going up (which we understand, due to covid and current economy.) Overall, a lovely experience. We would go again.

This was actually the best Chinese restaurant I have ever been too. Excellent food with a fabulous Asian supermarket next door. The only negative side was... that out of the 6 waitresses and waiters that served us, only one was polite and happy to please. Now this maybe excused as a cultural devide but in my books...manners are manners no matter from where you are from. We will happily be going back however.
