Had an extremely poor experience at the R Store today. I came in looking for boots and politely asked to try on a pair in my size. While I was still in the process of putting on the first shoe, the owner repeatedly asked whether I intended to buy them. I had literally only one boot on at that point. When I asked to try another size, I was met with audible huffing and puffing, as though assisting a customer was an inconvenient interruption to something far more important. Shortly after, I was told, not asked, if I would be purchasing the shoes. At that point, the dismissive attitude, rudeness, and complete lack of basic customer service made the decision easy. I chose to take my business elsewhere. This shop lost a customer today, and based on other reviews, this appears to be a recurring issue. Which is unfortunate, because the store actually has some great stock… just not enough to make dealing with the owner worthwhile.

I visited the R Store to be sized and fitted for a pair of boots. The service was excellent and the owner was incredibly knowledgeable. I've since been back to purchase another pair of Red Wings and once again the service was excellent and the quality of products instore are superb.

Walked in to this shop and was greeted with the same level of warmth from the owner as a malfunctioning freezer. After asking a simple question about sizing I was left with a snarky, rude response that made me feel like a walking inconvenience. The owner is so far up his own he probably needs a headlamp and GPS to find basic customer service skills. Such a shame because they have nice stuff. Nothing worth going in for though unless you want to feel like you’ve interrupted his TED talk on Why he’s Better than Everyone. 5 star for emotional rollercoaster. 1 star for everything else.

As with other 1* reviewers, I’m genuinely stunned by the attitude my friend and I received, and even more amazed that this ‘small independent shop’ seems content to let such behaviour tank their own business. We’d ordered in several sizes of boots for a very specific outfit for a Christmas event. From the outset, the chap serving us made it painfully clear that, as the ‘plus one’ friend, I wasn’t worth his time- unfortunately not an unfamiliar attitude, as women are still not seen as 'the money'. Irritating, but not enough to walk out. What *was* enough was that after trying on three pairs that we had ordered in and simply saying we weren’t purchasing today (because we were planning to return the following morning to buy the final pieces), he snatched the boots away, slammed them into their boxes, shoved those boxes out of sight, and then proceeded to ignore us entirely. When we attempted to ask basic questions, he just vanished from the shop floor. If this had been an individual purchasing, you'd have questioned what the hell happened. With two there, you're fortunately able to walk out and ask each other what the hell happened. Having now looked at other reviews, it's evidently not an isolated incident and an issue that is costing them thousands. Customer service in an online age of availability and convenience is paramount for one off sales and building a regular customer base- the only real differentiator between boutiques and big-box or online retailers, you’d think they’d have twigged by now. Neither of us will be bothering with them again. Rude, arrogant, sexist, and overpriced. Have a search locally within half a mile and online.

Had a really poor experience again. The guy in the shop was arrogant, rude and completely dismissive. He was impatient and unhelpful when I asked about different sizes, and even started bad-mouthing other shops. I tried on a few items but ended up buying elsewhere for a much better price. I’ve given this shop multiple chances, but this will be my last.

Very disappointing experiences with rude, arrogant and aggressive staff working in the shop (two middle age men). I had to returned very nice jacket twice as items were obviously damaged already from manufacturer. My partner shop there for the years without any issues.Definitely won't be anymore!!!!Man working in shop suggested that I damaged items myself, aggressively return jacket to my hand and walk away from me without any further help. They should really feel ashamed to lost long term customer like that.

Appalling customer service. Please beware when buying online from this place - if you have to return anything, there's a serious risk you won't get a refund. I returned something which was the wrong size 13 days ago (I have the proof that it was delivered), and have received no refund. I have phoned the store and, like other reviewers was told "the person who deals with refunds is not here". The guy couldn't wait to get me off the phone. Absolutely appalling customer service.

Terrible customer service experience which resulted in a loss of over £200. I bought a jacket through the online store but had to return it due to begin too large. The parcel was sent via a signed for delivery service and was recorded delivered a day after I sent it. Over the course of the next couple of months I called and emailed on multiple occasions to get an update on when I might expect a refund, and each time was told that the person I needed to speak to was not available. As an independent store, I thought they might just need a little more to process returns so waited, and called for updates regularly (of which none where provided) and thought "at least the item had been delivered, it will get processed eventually". When someone finally (after 3 months!) got back to me, they said that they had no record of the item being received at all. Usually I would have been able to make a claim through Royal Mail, but due to the time (over 90 days!) that it took to get a simple update and be informed by The R Store that it hadn't been received, I am now unable to do so. If the matter had been addressed earlier I would now not be over £200 out of pocket. I have emailed the store twice informing them of this and have received no response at all. Absolutely terrible customer service - I would not recommend purchasing anything from their online store as they clearly do not care about their customers at all.

The best boutique clothing store in Manchester. Excellent curated range of well known brands along with unknown European collections. Rare items, special editions and finely picked independent labels means you'll rarely see anybody else wearing the same. Guys working there have great style, play Manchester tunes and are very approachable. Great shop.
