Thursday 18th September 2025 - Grill Night After hearing countless suggestions to visit 22 The Square, Cross Hills, on the fringe of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, a friend and I decided to book a table at this very popular family owned Italian restaurant, and opted for their very popular Thursday Grill Night, our table was reserved for 6.30 pm,upon arrival we were greeted at the restaurant entrance with a smile and promptly guided to our table and given a selection of menus, all of which offered a varied, and extensive range of delicious options for both food and drink, The restaurant itself has a lovely, happy feel about it, with subtle lighting, smart decor, and the soft sounds of people enjoying their evening, and all being looked after by their allocated member of staff, one particular member of staff who did stand out was a chap called Raj who was extremely polite, friendly, and had a professionalism that was quite simply second to none!(we later discovered that Raj is the actual proprietor of 22 The Square) On to the food, this was the only dilemma of the evening as every meal that the staff walked past with looked and smelt amazing! I decided on the calamari starter which was cooked to perfection! My friend had the king prawns in garlic butter, again cooked to perfection, for the main course I had spotted another diner tucking in to a very well presented Calzone pizza so that was my mind made up! Prawn, chorizo, and a generous filling of mozzarella cheese with a delicious side sauce, absolutely divine! My friend decided on the roast chicken from the grill, all I have to say about that dish is wow! succulent char- grilled chicken, along with a generous amount of onion rings and fries, and presentation which was very impressive! another noted point was the service between courses was perfectly timed, We were then asked if we would like our drinks replenished and also if we would like to see the dessert menu (which looked incredible) but due to the more than generous main course dishes we had just devoured, we simply had no room for dessert! (next time we will sample the wonderful desserts on offer and skip the starters!) To summarize, 22 The Square is quite simply amazing in every aspect from start to finish and also extremely competitively priced for the standard of food being served,I think we have certainly found our new go to place when dining out! a true Italian gem! Grazie all at 22 The Square we will be back very soon!

We came to 22 for a Fathers Day meal and it was lovely. Husband and Son both had Calzone with different fillings, one chunky truffle chips, and one had bacon and onion potatoes, all was Delicious. Daughter had roast beef dinner, which was very tasty with in her words AMAZING Gravy, she didnt need the extra Yorkshire pudding but for £1 you cant say no. I had a monkfish special with a crab sauce which was wonderful. 3 soft drink and a bottle of Bulmers. Generous portions, Staff were friendly, happy, and attentive. We will be back again soon.

Really great place! The food has always been amazing, the price is reasonable, the atmosphere is great. We have been for dinnet and also enjoyed one of their themed nights. The puctures are from a Frank Sinatra night which was wonderful and would definitely recommend.

So this review is from the festive bottomless brunch... I've been before, luckily, because if this had been my first visit I would not be going back for a 2nd visit. We were a booking of 14, and all 14 of us were disappointed. I don't know if staff just couldn't deal with a large group, but that was their justification for everything. Bottomless brunch included unlimited cocktails, but the first thing we were told is that because we were a big group then they'd just bring out 2 jugs of cocktail at a time. Irrelevant of the fact that we all wanted different drinks, we had to decide on 2 between us. And they were all naff. Food was three nibble items, and again because there were a lot of us, all of the nibbles were just served on huge plates which we had to pass up and down the table until everyone had got what they ordered...this would have been easier if the staff serving the food actually knew what was on each plate. We had a vegetarian told that something was brie and it turned out to be chicken. Prawns were given instead of chicken, and nobody ended up with their correct order. It was such a disappointment because when I've been here before the food and service have been fine. Maybe a case of being too ambitious, and putting Christmas profits before quality?

First visit since moving to this area, very happy with the food, tasty, looked very good, decent portion, puddings were good for others! Nice pale ale, red wine was very acceptable reasonable prices. Service was good, staff were attentive and the restaurant was busy on a Thursday. Definitely worth a second visit.

Okay food, unfriendly service. We booked a table online, however, this was not forwarded to the restaurant staff. With no apology we were informed that the booking system is ineffective. The restaurant was almost empty so we were shown to our table. The waiter was neither friendly nor attentive. After the first course the plates and cutlery were cleared, unfortunately the cutlery was never replaced. Attracting the attention of the staff proved impossible so we had to resort to taking the cutlery from an adjacent, empty table. All in all the food was tasty and well presented. I ordered the pappardelle ragu which tasted mainly of mustard, the texture of the pasta and the ragu were indistinguishable from eachother. The bill arrived promptly.
