The staff were really polite and attentive. We enjoyed the new decor and Christmas decorations. However, I ordered the pan fried sea bass with crushed new potatoes and vegetables. My husband ordered the chicken curry. The presentation of the sea bass was poor. The vegetables were not fresh, the potatoes tasted of vinegar and I didn't bother tasting the overcooked fish. I was extremely disappointed. The chicken curry came in a silver bowl and was the size of a child's portion. My husband complained and another portion was delivered to him with some more chicken curry. I sent my meal back and played safe and ordered the fish and chips which was ok. Sadly the food was really disappointing and we will not be returning to this restaurant.

Four of us went today for pensioner Christmas lunchtime meal. It was £15 pp and it was great value for money . We were seated when arrived by friendly waiter. We had soup starter, three of us had turkey Christmas dinner and for vegetarian option they had vegetable wellington. Then we all had Christmas pudding for afters. All the meals were good portion size and really lovely and served hot. There was also a singer playing guitar and singing Christmas songs whilst we were eating which was a nice touch then also some children from the local primary school came in and sang a few songs which was lovely too. Well done to the staff who served everyone in good time and did such a good job . Nothing was too much trouble . All in all a lovely experience to get us in the mood for Christmas with lovely Christmas tree and decorations in the room and the pub.

5/5 12th November 2025 Wandering Wednesday was back on this week! It took us to a place that we haven’t been too in around 30yrs or more! ‘The Black Swan’ at Rixton, a couple of minutes drive to the outskirts of Warrington…. It has a massive beer garden with climbing frame and an old ‘tractor’ to play on….. This establishment has recently been renovated to a very high standard…. Country olde Worlde inside and spotlessly clean. The staff, Nicole & Alfie were very friendly, polite, attentive and totally professional, a special thank you to you both…xx plus a massive thank you to the Chefs in the background for their amazing food….xx We went straight to entrée’s: Neil had Pan-Fried Sea Bass Served on a bed of crushed new potatoes, with seasonal greens, drizzled with lemon butter, with a side of cheesy garlic flatbread. I had Battered Haddock Served with chunky chips, mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce, with a side of bread and butter. We shared a side of onion ring, they were probably the best we’d had in all our Wandering Wednesday’s! We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and without a doubt, be returning to this beautiful eatery….100%

Pros: Friendly staff Good outside area Decent food Cons: Hard to get served, long waits for drinks Gets exceptionally busy in nice weather It’s a decent spot, plenty of parking and outdoor space. Good play equipment for the kids and there’s plenty of outdoor tables. During the summer, if the sun is out you’ll struggle to park even though there’s a lot of space. But there’s on road parking too. The biggest issue for me is the bar. There’s always a load of people stood talking and drinking, leaning on the bar. It makes getting served near impossible at times and I’ve had to wait up to 20 minutes to get drinks for my group at times due to a lack of bar space. It also means the staff can’t see who’s next. The food is decent, with a good range of options. The indoor area for food is also well spaced and comfortable. To summarise, if you’re happy with busy and a bit of a wait then this place is great. If not, you may be better looking at other options. Table service apps or simply not having people block the bar would turn this place in to a 5* location.

Had Sunday lunch here today for 1st time & we will definitely be back. Our waitress Clare, Table 9, was so attentive checking if we wanted extra veg, potatoes or gravy. Large portion sizes & lovely food. We had the roast turkey & beef. Lovely

This place sadly has become a total dive. Place was filthy, and kids were running around screaming hysterically. This used to be a cozy pub, and now it's just a dirty, cheap modern dive of a pub. Lost all of its character and charm. Not a great selection of beers either.

The pub is lovely and great for a beer, however the food is well below average for a vegetarian. Bang bang cauliflower…more like knock knock, it was a joke! £6.50 for boiled cauliflower with some watery dipping sauce on the top, come on just take it off the menu, replace it with a mini quiche or veggie spring rolls perhaps. I did give feedback about this dish to the waitress who really wasn’t bothered. Secondly, the veg casserole for £13-14, it was tasteless and didn’t seem homemade at all, more like from a can. Overall if you’re a vegetarian/vegan it’s not a great place to dine and overpriced for what you get.

I have been staying here regularly for work commitments. I cannot fault the place. The management and their team are brilliant. Always making a good atmosphere and making you feel at home. Great selection of food and drinks. The accommodation prices are also hard to beat. Well done to the team at The Black Swan.

Perfect pub, plenty of indoor and outdoor space. Great food and drink selection, friendly staff. Duck pond (take 50 pence pieces to buy duck seed to feed them), awesome play area and tractor for the kids. Honestly the best best pub I've been to in years, oh! And it's dog friendly. The only gripe was that you can't order the whole menu if eating outside, just the burgers and sides... not sure how it's different them carrying burgers outside than a pie and mash but there you go

3 of us had lunch. Food amazing. Had starters - fishcake, pate and potato and leek soup all very very tasty . Then 2 of us had beer battered fish and chips. Wow absolutely enormous and best ever tasted. Also my daughter had the hanging kebab. Again an enormous portion and extremely tasty. There is a great range of deserts too but we were full to bursting. Try them next time. Staff very friendly and helpful not pushy. Beautiful surroundings. Will definitely be back.
