   I was really surprised to find such authentic Shanghai food in central London. The xiaolongbao here are honestly some of the best I’ve had in the UK – thin skin, juicy soup and very well balanced flavour. The shengjian buns were also excellent, crispy at the bottom and super fragrant. The restaurant is very close to UCL, which makes it a perfect spot for students or anyone missing proper Chinese food. Portion sizes are generous and everything tasted freshly made. I’ll definitely come back again.

   Shanghai Family is a great spot if you’re looking for classic Shanghai cuisine in London. The highlight for me was definitely the xiaolongbao – delicate, juicy and full of flavour. You can tell a lot of care goes into making them. The shengjian buns were also very good, with a crispy base and soft filling. The restaurant has a comfortable atmosphere and friendly service, and it’s conveniently located near UCL and IOE. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Chinese food.

   Authentic Shanghai flavours done right. The pan-fried buns were crispy outside and juicy inside, and the crab meat soup dumplings were rich and full of flavour. The spicy boiled beef was bold and fragrant, while the spare ribs with rice cakes were comforting and perfectly cooked. Excellent meal overall.

   Crab Roe Soup Dumplings: Very authentic — thin skin, juicy, fresh and sweet. Pairing with ginger and vinegar makes it delicious! Pineapple Shrimp: The shrimp are really big, with a bouncy and tender texture. Tastes great, not overly sweet, which suits most people’s preferences. Spicy Dry Pot Beef Offal: Fragrant, spicy, and numbing — surprisingly good! The offal was simmered until very soft, so it absorbed the flavors really well. Highly recommended. Salt & Pepper Spare Ribs: Crispy and charred on the outside, with a nice mix of fat, meat, and cartilage. It leans more toward a dry-fried style, which I really enjoyed. Pan-Fried Buns: Looked decent at first, but the bottoms weren’t as crispy as expected. The filling was tasty, though not juicy, and not very authentic. My friends thought the flavor was good overall, and I think people from the north might especially like it.

   A new restaurant focusing on Shanghai cuisine in London. It has a very convenient location, close to Tottenham court road. The environment of the restaurant is nice, bright and clean. Want to recommend the tempura prawns, tofu and pomfret. Looks like the photo and tastes authentic

   It's been too long since I've had Chinese food and I miss the taste of southern food very much ...... Friends booked the restaurant and we paid an average of £30 each. The dumplings are not too sweet, I prefer them to be on the sweeter side. Overall, it was quite satisfactory. The portions of food were on the small side and the prices were on the expensive side.

   Great authentic Shanghai food, deeply loved by real Shanghai people in London. Which is very rare in UK. I read all the reviews here before went to Shanghai Family. As the price looked a bit higher than some casual Chinese restaurants, I didn’t want any disappointment. The experience turned out to be GREAT. As a person spent early childhood in Shanghai, and always go back for Shanghai food, this is the most authentic Shanghai food I’ve ever had in London in 10 years. My EVERY Shanghai friend agree with that. The trolls’ reviews are ridiculously funny, like a joke. They seems either being too ignorant to know anything about Shanghai food, or they got a problem reading the menu and the price before eating, way too different than normal bad reviews, if you know what I mean;) 1 for Shanghai Family, 0 for the shady competitors. We ordered way too much, so I packed some to take away, normally it would cost £30-40 a person to have a good amount of food, but if you want some specialty food with uncommon ingredients, it’s for sure more expensive, but worth the price, as you can’t get anything as good anywhere else in London. If you really want to go but still concern about the price, go as a group, so you can taste more dishes and pay less :)
