I had a bad experience with the manager Stewie. I tried getting replacement shoes as I've owned my current ones for just over a year, and the soles have completely ripped. The manager tried to fob me off to the manufacturer instead, and once informed of the laws around the Consumer Protection Act, and called Citizen's Advice, she still refused to help me. I was told that my £70 walking shoes were not expected to last for over a year and that they are a cheaper, and low range option. Very bad and disappointing experience given that I am a frequent customer at the shop and have spent a significant amount of money there over the years.

I was looking for a nice, practical coat for walking and hiking, and found a nice one in Blacks, Lincoln. I asked to try the coat on and was astounded when the cashier said that I couldn't try it on in the changing room, but I could try it in in the middle of the shop! Her delivery of the information was curt and abrupt with no delivery skills what so ever. I voiced that it needed to take my jumper off and that i wasn't willing to do this in front of other customers. She retorted with ...well there's nothing else you can do "its company policy" to not allow coats in the changing rooms. I politely replied that it wasn't "company policy", it was "company choice" to inadvertently class all customers as potential thieves and that no customer could be trusted. I declined to undress in store, and swiftly left. All I can say from this unpleasant experience is, companies need to think deeper about their "trying on" policies,,,and maybe devise a policy where it is politely conveyed to customers that they can try a coat on, but only one coat at a time can be taken into the changing room , and that a member of staff will have to wait outside whilst trying the coat on. And maybe companies need to address the communication skills of their staff, as sometimes its not what's being said, its how their communication is being delivered. Overall a very belittling and unpleasant experience. So maybe Blacks of Lincoln, it maybe time to try harder on devising "policies" i.e. "company choices" which take into account the vast majority of honest customers, and not your current "company choices" that put everyone into the category of thief.

I returned a leaking tent. Emily was really welcoming and all the other staff seemed really happy and friendly. It got exchanged really quickly. Thanks

Visited here a year ago to have a look at what items they sell and it was amazing to see the Land Rover defender that is just inside the doors aswell as a great selection of camping and other outdoor equipment

Arguably the worst customer service I’ve received in 20 years After placing an order on the 27th Dec and receiving a despatch confirmation and tracking number it turned out the parcel was never given to the courier. After 5-6 emails to chase throughout Jan I had no reply and was forced to open a case with PayPal. After no response to the case I managed to speak to Customer Services and on 3 occasions throughout late Jan and Feb was promised refunds. After chasing again on Feb 6-8th I was told unless I closed the case with PayPal and said there was no issue with the retailer they would not refund the £155.25. After raising with PayPal this is a clear breach of PayPals terms and conditions and they’re now being looked into for this abuse of the Chargeback process. I can’t recommend using a smaller independent retailer more. Go Outdoors, Millets, Blacks and Ultimate Outdoors are essentially the same company with zero customer service, some clever marketing and no interest in anything other than a quick sale.

Good range of outdoor equipment, and some good deals, depending on what you are after. Friendly and helpful staff.

Very poor experience. The store has got the balance between security and customer service wrong. It shouldn't be so difficult to try on a coat and being watched like a hawk does not make for a comfortable shopping experience. A staff member had a go at me for being annoyed at this.

Great place to get all your gear and clothing for hiking, camping and accessories with the added advantage of being able to feel and try things first hand instead of just a website photograph and some dodgy reviews. Additional discounted end-of-line items also available in store. Always plenty of offers for both online and store: used an e-mailed 'TAKE10' offer today which came as an added bonus as intended to buy anyway. Service from staff was very good both whilst shopping and at the checkout.

Newly opened branch of the outdoors shop. It seems more focused on clothing rather than equipment, but there is still a good range of tents, sleeping bags, backpacks and miscellaneous other camping stuff.
