   I have zero knowledge of woodwork,I'm a decorator ,but needed to match a piece of wood on an outside job I was doing for a customer and the lads at Trafford Timber couldnt have been more helpful and didnt make me feel like a 'plonker' for not knowing what I was talking about.Top marks!

   I recently had a frustrating experience with this timber yard due to poor communication & service and incredibly long lead times. As a university student working on a commission, I needed timely quotes and material samples to present at meetings for funding approval. Unfortunately, the lack of follow-through caused significant delays and inconvenience. My first visit to collect a wood sample went smoothly. However, when I called to request samples of hardwoods not kept on-site, I was told they would be available for collection in two days (Friday). Upon arriving on Friday, the staff at the desk had no knowledge of my order—turns out it was never placed. This wasted 2 hours of my morning travelling back and forth , time that I could have spent attending university. They didn't apologise and then placed a new order for me to collect the following Monday. At the same time the new order was placed, I requested a quote for all sample materials. They took down my email address and stated I would receive the quotes via email. Despite waiting for three weeks, no quote was provided. After three weeks, I called again to follow up. Once more, they took my email and stated the quotes would be sent to me. I emphasised that I needed the information by the following day. The next morning, when I had still not received anything, I called at 10:00 AM and explained that I required the quotes before 1:00 PM for an important meeting. By 1:00 PM, there was still no communication. After multiple follow-up calls—including one at 1:50 PM, just ten minutes before my meeting—I finally received a lump sum total for two types of wood. This was not the breakdown I had originally requested, as I wanted to compare the costs of each material separately before making a decision. As a student, I felt that I was not being taken seriously, and the lack of urgency significantly impacted my ability to meet critical deadlines so I decided to not take further service. If you are considering using this timber yard, be prepared to follow up regularly to ensure your requests are processed or being firmer than I had been with deadlines.

   The worst example of customer service I've seen in a long time. I arrived there after work at 4:31pm. I stood at the service desk for around four minutes whilst one member of staff was on the phone. Another came to me at 4:35pm and refused to serve me because of a notice on the door saying you might not be served if you're later than half an hour, so I asked if I could place an order for delivery as I already had my measurements written out. I was told to come back before 4:30pm the following day or to email my order. When I questioned the service saying there's another 25 minutes left, I was told "we need all that time to cash up so we can leave the premises at 5pm to go home on time"! Why not just advertise that you're only open until 4:30pm so customers don't waste their time trying to get to your premises only to be refused service? Update: I have spoken to both the MD and the manager. Both were disappointed with the service I received and were willing to make amends but I had placed my order elsewhere. The manager explained how health and safety regulations meant sufficient time was needed to clean the site - I agree but the opening times advertised are misleading and the staff member still have taken my order, and the manager did agree with this
