   I went to a parents' carvery event. The best part of the experience was that they offered Pepsi instead of Coke! Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse shortly after. The person serving at the carvery was the most unpleasant and rude individual I have ever met! We were scolded for starting the queue in the wrong place! (we were first-time visitors... and definitely the last time!!) He was patronizing and came out from behind the counter to show us where to stand as if we were children! When we asked about getting meat from a particular joint, since one looked overly dry, we were told it was not dry (yet it remained inedible even after being soaked in the brown liquid (gravy) for 20 minutes). He was very blunt when asking about Yorkshire pudding and stuffing?! The amount of stuffing given was tiny, leading us to ask if we could help ourselves. The answer was a strict no—giving allergies as the reason.

   We went with 4 grandchildren and while the service was good, the delay of 20 min for the main course, then 20 min to get our desserts, made it an challenging time with small children. The staff who were serving did their best and should be commended, but I noted a manager looking like he was interviewing for staff. Surely dinner time is not the best time to do this?

   Alders is a lovely place to eat — the food is always nice and served quickly, and the staff are really welcoming and kind. The prices are decent too, which makes it great value for money. The only downside is that a few times I’ve visited, quite a lot of food has been unavailable, and the carvery can be a bit hit and miss with a limited selection at times. Other than that, it’s a pleasant spot for a good meal and friendly service.

   Went to the bar 35 minutes after ordering and waitress went into kitchen and came out with wrong order. The carvery was poor, everything been under the heaters too long. Stuffing was rock hard, roast potatoes too, brittle Yorkshire pudding , veg was ok but only warm beef & turkey was excellent. Chocolate mint tart was excellent, seems to me that there’s not enough staff as surrounding tables were left uncleared.over all a disappointing experience

   Thanks to Carl the chef for our carvery which was delicious. Plenty of gluten free options (not the Yorkshire pudding though). Next time I think we'll go for the small!
