   Quoted me £380 for a job which has ended up costing me £90 from the guy I usually visit. Plus, just so Halfords get the idea, I also decided to get an engine service for an additional £130 coming together to be £220 just to show you the difference in costing between Halfords and my local garage… when it’s a windscreen wiper motor and linkage I don’t understand why I would need premium parts… the after market one I’ve purchased comes with a 10 year warranty. If that’s your business prerogative to only buy in direct from the supplier so be it… but let’s look at the facts here. It’s a windscreen wiper. I don’t need premium parts I just need it to work… the maths is that I could do this £90 job 3 times over and it would still be cheaper than this garage which doesn’t half make you think. Nothing against the Halfords staff they were great. I think someone who sits on top of the food chain should look at what the average consumer would do in this situation when charged £380 to get one of their wipers working.

   Booked a major service on my Mini clubman 2.0d. My wife took it and picked it up, when I got home I opened the door and noticed the hinges hadn’t been greased, I opened the bonnet, the bonnet hinges hadn’t been greased. Checking the oil it was still black, usually it’s a brownish colour when new. I unscrewed the filler cap, the oil was black and smelt old. The brake fluid is tricky to get to but the panel was still dusty and looked undisturbed. The screen wash bottle had not been topped up. I jumped the gun with this review, Pete showed me the filters were new, he did a complimentary oil and filter change at his own expense.

   I booked in 2 hours before the oil change. Pete on the front desk was very helpful and wasn’t patronising at all (like some mechanics are). I mentioned I was travelling to Scotland that evening and he said he’d make sure my car was all ready and safe for the long journey including checking my tyres, screen wash etc too. Although quick things for them to check it would have taken me ages so I was really appreciative! Thank you for the great service.

   I'd avoid. Use a truck for my business, and my usual garage was too busy so booked a free brake check with Halfords, as my brakes had been squealing. Obviously knowing Halfords are a bigger company was expecting it to be more expensive and was happy to pay a slight premium for a fast service. I wasn't prepared however for the quotation and what came next! I had already asked them to change a tyre, but they came back and said all 4 needed changing, 2 were advisory and 2 were essential. They were all comfortably above the legal limit as per their report so not sure how they worked that out. The quote per tyre was £330. I could get the tyre for £220 so I find the cost of £110 to change a tyre truly staggering, and obviously the labour cost roughly £400 to change all 4!! Next they told me as an advisory to renew the front brake pads, cost of this was £200. Then Compulsory, was renew front discs (£423.99), renew rear discs (£241.79) and renew rear pads (£215.56). My major gripe and concern here is (apart from the cost), they told me the discs were worn down below the manufacturers minimum specification and were dangerous. The vehicle shouldnt be driven until sorted. I went home that evening and shocked at the cost naturally started shopping around. I got the manual to my car and and couldn't find the minimum spec, so I waited until the next morning and called Nissan. Nissan confirmed their minimum disc spec and it was above what Halfords said so they categorically lied and if they didn't lie, misinformed me. That really annoyed me as i left the garage scared that my car was unsafe potentially with my kids in the back but couldn't afford £2200! I find that extremely low tactics but luckily I wasn't fooled, for the record I managed to get 1 tyre, a new set of pads front and rear and 1 new set of discs for £400. Even though I didnt need all of them Halfords had still scared me enough to change them anyway, and still managed at a fraction of the price. So please avoid. Absolute charlatans hiding behind their name scaring people into spending money that's not required.

   Fantastic service, Pete and Steve could not have been more helpful. Took the sting out of having to have clutch and flywheel replaced!! Let me know when the tow company had delivered my car and updated on work. Not a cheap repair, but offered an interest free payment plan should I have needed! Would definitely recommend
