I’ll try keep this short. Booked a double club room. Got given the newer ones (as in the pics) but 1st issue tv wont stream to phone due to WiFi issues. Known issue in a few of the newer rooms which requires some kind of reset by maintenance but as I found this out late at night maintenance was t available to sort it. Not great if what u want to do is check in and relax with your fave Netflix program etc. can’t access the hdmi ports either due to the boxes in style of the tv. Second issue which I found just before bedtime was the internal lock did not work so unable to secure the room. Not great of a solo traveler. Offered to move me into an out of order room but said rather leave and sleep in car. Then the found another club room elsewhere in the hotel. Agreed to move and had shower, getting into bed and another issue the new room doesn’t have a double. It had 2 singles pushed together. Too late to say anything and too tired so bad night sleep later went to reception on way to gym to be told all older club rooms have those bed. This is not mentioned or advertised. Given option of smaller basic room but due to luggage needs wouldn’t have worked. Had to stay in that room with little choice. Back from gym and room still cold even though I left heating on. After telling 3 people and over an hour later maintenance came to confirm it’s not working and in the time I had to pack up all my things for a second time in case another room move was needed but given a portable heater in the end. Later that evening once I came back the room got really stuffy with no air circulation due to ac/heater not working so now it was a case of waking up very couple house through the night opening and closing window to regulate between staying warm and being able to breath. At this point I was just tired, fed up, and totally ruined my 2 day break. Over the 2 days stay I spent more time stressing and being uncomfortable to the point I wish I never bothered. Stayed at a few different Village hotels now but this has got to be the worst sadly. Oh and to top it off the club rooms have check out at 12 but after 11 key cards stop working so had to go to reception after finding this out the hard way to get my card working again. Just the icing on the cake really. Why do the keys stop working before the check out time? Majority of these issues were mentioned to staff but not even a small gesture of goodwill so all the discomfort, issues faced. I don’t ever look for a freebie but gestures make it feel like they care and want you to be happy. Got the feeling it was more a case of silver the problem and that’s the end disregarding all the trouble, stress, time wasted etc on my part.

We booked for 3 nights and only stayed for 2 nights, we were that disappointed we decided to leave and drive 4.5 hours to get home. We had been moved following the first night after complaining about our view, the coffee machine not working and the TV not functioning. The whole building was like a building site, we were at no point advised of this before we travelled. We could not get breakfast at 9.45am on Christmas Day and advised it finished at 9.30am. Why we couldn’t have been offered toast just to be polite I do not know. The excuse we were given was there was a folded piece of paper on the bed with a list of opening times (we didn’t read this as dindt have time). We were also never advised of the breakfast closing at this time although directed to Macdonalds which was also closed. We could not get food in the hotel on Christmas Day unless it had been pre-booked, again no-one had advised us about this beforehand. The facilities we had paid for as an extra to use the gym and pool closed at 12 o’clock, again we were never advised of this beforehand. The TV had instructions on how to stream from our phones which would not connect, I was advised after I complained that they had turned off this function of all TVs , again we had not been informed of this. So we were left in a hotel on Christmas Day without any services that a hotel is supposed to provide. There was nothing on TV for us to watch and could not stream, we both felt extremely disheartened, isolated and depressed and had nothing to change our mood due to the total lack of facilities. The button to go down on the 3rd floor lift did not function also , so we had to press up and go up before we could go down. After all this compounding faults we had had enough and drove home. The whole hotel seemed to be run by kids and was disjointed. The room manager offered us coffees from Starbucks downstairs due to not having a functional coffee machine in our first room., we thank this lady. This is the only member of staff that we spoke to that seemed to be concerned for our happiness and our complaints. I would seriously stress that training is needed and using members of staff with a little wisdom to know how to deal with problems. I could go on further although I do not see that the company would take any of this seriously. It was a waste of money. I have attached a room with a view photo we had been allocated and I state again that nobody had bothered to contact us regarding this before our 5 hour drive to get to this hotel. There were also no phones in the rooms to communicate with any staff so we continuously had to go downstairs to try to speak to staff. The air conditioning didn’t also seem to function correctly and had turned itself off and took a long to load up.

This is hands down one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had, and judging by the number of similar reviews, I’m clearly not alone. There is a very obvious pattern in previous guest reviews, and it does not reflect well on Village Hotel Manchester. Check-in was a joke. The self-service tablet didn’t work and told me to seek help, yet no one was at reception. I had to knock on a back-office door where staff were sat laughing. A staff member named John eventually came out and was rude and dismissive, telling me to “give it a go” on the tablet even though I’d already done exactly that. Helping me seemed to be a huge inconvenience. I was then given incorrect information about dinner service times. On arrival, I clearly told the receptionist that I would not be adding my personal card to the account. This was argued with initially, but eventually accepted. At no point was I told that refusing to add my card would mean I would be denied the use of my overnight allowance paid for by my employer. Had I been made aware of this at check-in, I would have left immediately and not wasted a single minute in this place. The first room I was given was filthy — dust everywhere, stained carpets, stained bedding with hairs in the bed, and a dirty bath. Completely unacceptable. I had to complain to be moved, and surprise surprise, the renovated room was actually clean. So they clearly know the standard — they just don’t apply it unless forced to. Breakfast was revolting. Soggy hash browns, bacon and sausages that looked like they’d been sat there since the day before, eggs with questionable bits in them, and beans that looked stale. I didn’t dare eat it and managed one slice of toast before a long working day. After working nearly 14 hours, I returned at 9:20pm desperate for a proper meal. Despite the hotel having a company card already on file, I was refused food unless I added my personal card to their system. Having read other reviews, this is where the real issue becomes obvious. Numerous guests report being wrongly charged or double-charged, and it’s very clear why they push so hard for personal card details. I explained that my £18 meal was well within my allowance and that I was not comfortable adding my card due to these well-documented issues. The response was simple: refusal to serve me food. Essentially, comply with their payment setup or go hungry. When I raised this at reception, John and another receptionist (who refused to give her name) were openly smirking and dismissive. She appeared to find the situation amusing — that I couldn’t eat after a 14-hour shift. I’ve never experienced such a lack of basic human decency in hospitality. To make matters worse, my room had not been serviced — no clean towels, no fresh tea or milk. I asked to speak to a manager and was told there wasn’t one. Convenient. I was left unable to shower after a long working day. With no food available, I had no option but to walk to McDonald’s at 10pm in pouring rain. When I returned, staff were again sat in the back room laughing and smirking as I walked past with my food. The level of professionalism here is non-existent. I gave breakfast another chance the following morning and somehow it was even worse. Over 48 hours, I survived on two slices of toast. This place feels less like a hotel and more like a trap — filthy rooms, disgusting food, staff who couldn’t care less, and a payment system that many guests are rightly suspicious of. If you refuse to play along, you are treated appallingly. Save your money, save your dignity, and stay somewhere else.

Not the experience I expected. Staying here on a work trip and so far am disappointed at the service provided. Let’s get the good bits out of the way first: Room is pleasant, bed very comfortable, rooms are quite quiet, breakfast was decent, most of the staff I interacted with were pleasant and professional. Now on to the bits that have disappointed so far: - Room is not as clean or well maintained as I’d expect of a Village hotel - looks like the hotel is receiving some refurbishment at present so can perhaps forgive this one. - Parking is atrocious, not enough spaces, no parking or traffic control (people parking in road areas and on verges, leaving little room for vehicles manoeuvring around the car park). And they have the cheek to charge £5 per day extra for the privilege even if there is literally nowhere to park. It seems ridiculous that a hotel would charge for a service that is not currently fit for purpose and cannot be used appropriately. - Work booked a room and breakfast paid upfront, but some miscommunication somewhere means that when I checked in they tried to charge again for breakfast. (I get that mistakes happen and this is possibly not the hotel’s fault, though as both the agency used to book, and their supplier - presumably Village hotels group - both confirm the booking included breakfast, there is a strong suggestion that it is the hotel at fault here). What surprised me most about this situation was the seemingly unprofessional response I got from the hotel staff member I spoke with about this - they did not want to make any effort to look into resolving the issue, despite documented evidence to the contrary claimed it’s not their problem and seemed to want to wash their hands of it by suggesting ‘I should just pay the extra, charge it to the company I work for and forget about it.’ When I suggested that it made more sense for me to get breakfast elsewhere if I was going to have to claim it back in expenses they were then doggedly insistent that I pay the extra anyway. Do you encourage your hotel staff to openly try and scam customers now? It’s not the worst, but it is definitely not living up to the expectations set based on price and reputation. Before this stay I had a positive view of Village hotels as they seem to maintain a generally good image. Now I’m wondering if that image is just a facade, as the experience is well below par especially for the price charged (in fact, I have had better experiences than this at several more budget friendly hotels.)

Second time at The Village, Ashton, for a weekend including Party Night, Dance through the Decades. We booked a basic but comfy room, great shower/bathroom, coffee and tea facilities and plenty of space. Just a couple of little niggles. Two bulbs, one each on either side of the room, flickering as if they needed changing. Although not a major concern, it was a little annoying while we were trying to get ready. Party Night was as usual, well organised. Although, the food could do with being served earlier, as it was nearly 9pm by the time we ate. As a result, the main meal was a bit dry and bland. Again, not a major complaint as the quality of the 2 course meal and disco was reflected in the £12.50 per person ticket price. We have been to quite a few Village Hotels and this one is in a fantastic location, conveniently situated for trams to Manchester. It is surrounded by many well known places to eat, you can't go wrong. The staff are friendly and helpful too. We will no doubt come again

Stayed here last night for new years eve. The room was clean and bed was nice and comfy. Evening entertainment was brilliant. The only let down was the breakfast. It was just awful. It was a buffet style. Beans were cold, only scrambled eggs on offer and the bacon was barley cooked. It just wasn't edible. We ended up getting breakfast elsewhere. I would stay again I just wouldn't bother with the food

Hotel was good for the price over Christmas period. Bed was comfy and went straight to sleep. Breakfast was nice in the morning, got a room with breakfast included, but not worth £12.50 if not booked. Would definitely return.

A very pleasant and enjoyable stay in the Village Hotel Ashton. Check in was easy and effortless, room was clean, tidy and comfortable. Food and drink was on a par with what you would expect it to be. Breakfast was good and enjoyable. Staff were the best part though - helpful, pleasant and a warm smile to greet all customers. A 5 minute walk has you at the tram line and from there 15 minutes has you into Manchester City Etihad Stadium, and a further 5 minutes or so has you into Manchester City Centre. They definitely fit the bill of being a family friendly hotel, and I will absolutely stay again on return visits to Manchester.
