Went to the salon today with my son and my mum to have his hair cut. My so is autistic and is three years old, but we regularly bring him to this salon as he finds hair cuts really difficult and distressing and the in and out element of this barbers provides an ease of coming straight in and getting the job done. We have previously had problems with specific members of staff after they decided amongst themselves they were no longer going to cut hairs of children who cannot sit alone (we have witnessed them refuse other small children for the same reason previous to today). However, the company does advertise to cut children’s hair so this does not appear fair or representative? Some of the staff have previously told us he reason for this choice was due to one of the members of staff cutting a child’s hair and making her ear bleed in the Staveley branch which caused a scene with the child’s parents. Regardless, there have always been 2-3 members of staff regularly in this branch that agree to cut my son’s hair and do a really good job at working with us to help. My mum always holds my child and ensures he does not hit any of the equipment or staff in his distress of the experience and these staff have always been accepting of his issues and the need to simply get the job done. Today we were refused and a comment was made of my son being naughty and violent, to which I responded to say he is not naughty he is autistic and does not like the experience but obviously he needs his hair cut still as I was leaving. The member of staff then proceeded to raise her voice at me and accuse me of leaving bad reviews previously, trying to get sympathy by saying she isn’t being inclusive, telling me that I can’t have an issue with the refusal because I don’t even hold my son for the cuts myself (I don’t do this because I have a back problem which means I do not have the strength when seated to restrain my son) and lies of my son biting staff previously and injuring them - he has NEVER bitten or laid a hand, foot or anything else on any of them! I left the shop today and proceeded to burst into humiliated tears around the corner where a random middle aged woman comforted me, appalled by what she had witnessed from outside the door. After being accused of leaving a bad review, I thought I’d make sure my story is heard. I’ve gone through the reviews for the company and can see I am not the only parent to have been refused or have a bad experience, but also see other scathing reviews too. I have tried all the other children and SEN hairdressers in chesterfield and never found anyone but these few girls here that could get the job finished due to his distress, and we have always done our best to be appreciative and helpful to get the job done. Today however, I was humiliated, shouted at, accused and name called and outright disrespected as a customer entirely. I will be making sure I spread the word of this now, her wrongful accusations will now ring true!

Witnessed today a member of staff refuse to give a little boy his hair cut as i walked by the shop and stood to witness the scene. She claimed this was because the child was too young to sit alone and being at an age where they’d be naughty if sitting alone (he looked about 3/4) , but it very quickly became evident she knew this particular child too. The mother made a comment upon this refusal as walking out the door “he isn’t naughty he is autistic as you fully know and we do everything to help get his hair cut”. The hairdresser then proceeded to raise her voice at the woman “don’t try saying we’re not inclusive, he’s naughty and violent and won’t sit alone so we’re not doing it and you can’t act as a good mum who wants her son’s hair cut when when it’s being done and he’s upset and aggressive you’re no where to be seen and it’s your mum holding him instead” at this point the woman and her mum began to answer back and this turned into a full argument where your employee continued to accuse the customer of leaving bad reviews and threatened that a woman who works here and usually cuts his hair won’t be doing it either. I found this whole scenario to be quite appalling on the companies behalf - small children cannot sit alone for their hair regardless of disabilities, especially autism, but still need their hair cuts. The company advertises to do children’s hair cuts but appear to charge an adults pricing for anything more than a child trim anyway and are refusing to do small children? doesn’t seem to make sense to me. I myself do usually come to the salon for a quick trim in between colourings and cuts with usual hairdresser, but after witnessing this behaviour, the mother crying outside the shop after this scenario and hearing the staff members inside continue to make comments and judgements about her, i absolutely will not be and cannot believe this is how a company is treating people.

I have been to this place before but today was the 2nd time they let me down. They advertise 5.30pm as the closing time, I finished work early and came foe a haircut at 4.45pm and as the weather is good, the lady decides to close early and had the cheek to tell me that you're a bit late. They just lost a regular customer
