The Poacher is my local. The management - Sarah & Neil - are fantastic hosts. The staff members - Daniel, Lewis, Rachel and James are all amazing. And Cal the chef creates yummy food. Lewis is a fab karaoke host on Fridays and Sarah & Neil bring a variety of excellent local talent to entertain us every Saturday. I love it here!

We have just visited as a family to attend the Hawaiian family party. The kids had lots of fun with the entertainment, crafts and outdoor play section. They have also loved the face painting opportunity too. The party bags were very thoughtful and contained a generous amount of bits and bobs for the kids which made them very happy and excited. We have previously visited the family parties before and also had a really good time. We had purchased drinks and food all of which were great. The staff have been very friendly and welcoming every time we have visited. During the kids party an adult game of limbo was also put on to bring fun and enjoyment to day. This game actually presented a remarkable prize for the winner. This was a family day out to Chester zoo for a family up to 6. A lot of effort, time and thought had gone into these parties. The pub also decorated to theme. I hope these parties continue as they are great for our local area and children.

This place was lovely and the staff were amazing and went above and beyond for us so 10/10 for this. Drinks were good priced and cocktails were fantastic so 10/10. We had the chicken for the starters and omg they were amazing, the chicken moist and not dry and the flavour was amazing so my brother and I were soo looking forward to our main. I order the turkey Sunday lunch large with extra roast potatoes and my brothers ordered the same but with beef. Our order came straight after we finished the starter and unfortunately it wasn't as good as we were expecting. The Brockley was great and still had a good crunch, the carrots were fresh, sweet and taste amazing and the pigs in blanket were great to but unfortunately that's were it stops. The beef my brother had was dry and my turkey was like sliced turkey for sandwiches ( ok I know its not Xmas but maybe change the turkey to pork or chicken if you struggle to get turkey in). The roast potatoes were nice put frozen and had been dipped in oil as that's was all you could taste and was a shame as they looked amazing. The stuffing was ok but dry so maybe add abit off butter to the stuffing mix but unfortunately the yourkshire pudding were terrible so both decided not to order pudding. I would go back but try something different on the menu but not the Sunday roast so we would give the food 6/10.

1 of all we wish to apologise to The Poacher as this was our not a place we had even thought about, until we made a last minute decision, and OH MY what a FANTASTIC decision it was. Never judge a book by it's cover, well the car park was empty and there was no know else having a meal in the pub at around 3pm on a Friday we thought, this doesn't look good, but hey we here lets at least try and WOW. The meal was outstanding simple as that. This is a pub where you go for a drink and a something to eat, so don't except the dΓ©cor to be on par of some 5star place it's a good old fashioned pub, but still with the character your dad, grandparents had come to love. What very 1st impressed me was on ordering our meal at the till, we were asked about any allergies and tolerances, this is the 1st time we have ever been asked this in all the places we have been. The menu is not a fancy all singing all dancing colour brochure like you get in most places this is black n white on paper, simple & to the point. They have a great variety of choice to cater from kids, something lite or a full on menu. The meal from starter to main course was delicious simple as that, hot well cooked just everything was perfect and left the pub stuffed and prices again brilliant. So next time without hesitation, we will be going directly to The Poacher You want a place where you have an outstanding meal, be able to chat without music blurring and everyone is warm, polite and smiling. Empty Car Park, no-one else having a meal.....the people of wigan and beyond don't have a clue what they are missing .......
