This pub is head & shoulders above most other pubs you’re ever likely to frequent. From the choice of cask ales (with CAMRA discount), bar snacks - pies & cheese boards, beer gardens, a huge TV screen and we’ve got a Northern Soul vibe going on this evening. No visit to St Helens is complete without calling here.

Pies are 3.5/10, got felt up by an old man, no sauvvy B in stock. All in all, a solid night in St Helens

Can't comment on the food as I've never tried it. The beer is excellent and loads of real ales to choose from, hardly any waiting time at the bar even when there's a few in which is great and the clientelle tends to be in their 40s and up which means there's never any bother. The landlord has made a real effort with the beer garden and it's a great place to spend a sunny afternoon chatting with friends. There's also wheelchair access all round.

This is a proper locals pub, I only ever found about this place because a mate told me about it. The pub itself from the outside looks like it isn't open lol, and the sign is half hanging off but when you go in there it was rammed packed and quite big inside. We sat out the back on these beer kegs which had been converted into seats. The pub itself I don't think has been renovated in a very long time but I like that kind of stuff. I would recommend coming here.

This pub has a fantastic atmosphere and is well stocked with real ales, which is my main reason for coming here. Friendly helpful staff and customers! Difficult access for wheelchair users and no accessable toilet so only 4 stars. I hope my suggestion regarding entrance will be seriously considered and implemented. Looking forward to returning. Very busy pub and well liked by CAMRA members (for which there is a discount on cask ales).

Camra has recognised this pub over the years for it's stunning range and variety of real ales. The helpful staff work hard to ensure everyone's glass full in this busy pub.

Cracking selection of Real Ales & at least 10 ciders. Always a decent atmosphere!

Havent been in here for well over a decade and its completely changed for the better. Superb atmosphere, friendly and laid back. Music on but not blaring out. Excellent selection of hand pull ales plus all the usual mainstream offerings. Local homemade pies and sandwiches. Lucky to have this as my local again.
