   It's certainly rough but nowhere near as bad as some places that l've been to — and they have some entertainment on for the locals that they seem to enjoy so how much can I complain, really? At least the beer isn't gut rot, and there’s certainly a community feel here too. I’m just not into it, which is fair enough too, isn’t it?

   What has happened to Widnes? We called in for a drink on Saturday night and they were brushing the floors and closing. There was more bar staff than customers. The bar staff who was there was very friendly though.

   Ok, just about, gets 3rd star for the dj on the saturday night i was in. Landlord was great, regulars fine, drink prices fine but there was a powerful smell of manure at one side of the bar. Not all over the pub but this makes it the one and only pub ive ever been to where the toilets smell better than the bar. Perhaps it was a one off?

   I was in a predicament today. And ended up at the Grapes whilst trying to get myself a taxi.. The staff and the locals were amazing. One of the local gentleman even offering me a hot drink while I waited and even helping the taxi find me. Very welcoming and lovely, after the day I had it really was lovely to see a friendly face.
