I'm writing to express my disappointment and concern about our recent visit to The Bridge Inn Sandycroft for a family event. Despite being a family-friendly establishment, we were shocked to be told that they had no hot water available in the pub point blank. I found that odd as someone with experience in the industry as management for many years, I know that having hot water is a basic requirement for health and safety. Failure to do so for hygiene, food prep, and so on can result in enforcement. When I politely asked to double-check after family members had gone up, the staff member, I think the manager, which is shocking, was rude and dismissive. To my surprise, she later brought over a pan of boiling water and dumped it on the table. Considering they had none but now do, I was unsure if it was safe and sterilized and in a pan, yes a pan, which I found unacceptable and potentially hazardous for children. The lack of hot water and poor service were compounded by the reckless handling of hot water, which put our children at risk.

I have always had fond memories of a warm atmosphere and friendly staff in the past, but I was incredibly disappointed with how rude the staff was tonight. I walked in to find a lot of people sat at the bar- okay, this cannot be helped, but staff had no clue someone new had approached the bar (in fairness she was alone, but I was dressed pretty uniquely in comparison to what I can only assume is the regular clientele). I was served and sat down quietly. My partner joined a little later and I purchased his drink as he entered. First drinks went down a treat and my partner bought the second round. He tasted his Guinness and wasn’t happy. Being a barmaid myself, I tried his drink and agreed something wasn’t right. I went back to the bar to make the staff aware of this. It wasn’t a complaint- I know that when the end of the barrel is close, the drinks occasionally taste off. From previous experience, the drink is either replaced, or an alternative offered (as I mentioned before, I am also a barmaid). Instead, the staff insisted there was nothing wrong despite not tasting it themselves and, quite rudely in front of a rather full pub, pointed out that many people were drinking Guinness. I would have accepted if she’d checked that the barrel was 1. In date and 2. Wasn’t empty/near end, but she refused to leave her post and continued to essentially belittle me. I returned to my partner feeling rather small and sheepish. He didn’t finish his drink, which he’d paid nearly Β£5 for (this is a village pub, not flipping London) and we left shortly after. Bitterly disappointed as I was looking forward to being reunited with a warm and welcoming pub.

Went here to celebrate a friends birthday, had the roast dinner, absolutely gorgeous & very reasonably priced, I had the small portion, still like a full sized meal, my husband had the regular which was huge! We were a large group, all the meals arrived hot & no one had to wait long. Well done Bridge Inn.

Very reasonably priced Sunday roast with delicious fresh veg and plenty of it. Staff and owner friendly people, we will definitely go again but a hard place to find as there are no signs, we had to ask a local that lived in the area but once found easy to get to
