This place, formerly known as Cafe Melo and now operating as BRIC, left me with a very negative impression. I was refused service simply because I only had cash and could not pay by card. This treatment was humiliating β as if not using a card were something wrong or unacceptable. Not everyone always has access to a card, and refusing cash excludes many potential customers. Changing the name or ownership doesnβt change the fact that such a policy is unreasonable and extremely unfriendly to guests.

i think this is somewhere to be if you are queer and wanting to feel like your hanging out at a friends place. The warmest atmosphere and the feeling like chatting to the stranger across from you is possible in a way that is very rare these days. coffees good too :)

Visited here today for the first time and was seriously impressed! It was pretty full but we were still given a warm welcome ( even tho we just went in cake and coffee). Coffee was lovely and their lemon cake was to die for. Relaxed atmosphere and modern decor. Will return 10/10

Very cute cafe ! I fortunately had the opportunity to visit the cafe when I went to play football in the area and had a delicious mushroom toastie. The coffee looked really good but I already had too much caffeine - the conversations around me focused on how incredible the cortado was - so I can recommend it. Cute vibes for people who like to read books in coffee shops with a mellow playlist in the background. Love the colours ! Love the homeliness !

2nd update 13/08/2021 I don't usually leave updates, especially not two...but they're my local coffee shop, and their service is still very good, and I've recently discovered their cookies, which are amazing. (Especially their chocolate one, and the tahini one). They've also recently started selling babka buns (chocolate + caramel), which aren't better than the cookies, but still a good treat. Update 30/03/2021 Still amazing. We tried two of their sandwiches this time for lunch. The cheese and mushroom toastie was really really good, and I am by no means a mushroom lover. The seasoning was great and they avoided the far-too-often rubbery mess that happens in other places (and my kitchen). The salted beef bagel was also a good choice, and the coleslaw was a good balance. Weβre going to go back and try some other sandwiches next week. I would highly recommend this place, especially as their service is still outstanding. Old review: Lovely delicious coffee, and the staff are really friendly and nice. Easy to pick up a coffee on your way to Hackney Downs. At the moment, they've made it so you don't have to go inside to order your coffee.
