It was the first time we had Sunday lunch at the General Eliott. It had a great atmosphere and the staff are friendly. We all had the roast lamb and the meat was very tasty and had a great selection of vegetables. We will definitely be back for Sunday lunch.
Just been again today 23rd Nov and it’s got even better! My pork belly was amazing and I have to say both myself and Jules absolutely loved the dinner. We did book as per my recommendation so was easy when we arrived. Again can’t help but up the star rating to 5 So we visited the general Elliot on Sunday and made the mistake of not booking a table. As a result although we were made more than welcome we had to wait over an hour for our food. Now to be absolutely fair we was told when we ordered so it wasn’t surprise in any shape or form. The way they work is if you book a table your order goes to the top of the queue so BOOK BOOK BOOK in advance. There is a lovely touch of cheese and biscuits on the bar for free which was lush and overall the dinner was lovely. I have seen bigger yorkies but the meat was lovely and everything was cooked nice. It’s a lovely pub and look forward to revisit shortly. PS the prices for food are more than responsible so a great value meal as well.
Excellent steak, well cooked and good quality. The basic burger was very good too. Friendly pub with live music. 3 reasonably decent cask beers on too, nice garden overlooking the canal. Highly recommended.
Have been visiting this fantastic little pub for almost 2 years now since moving to the area. I stand by my opinion that a better Sunday roast cannot be found anywhere else. It’s become a staple of our week for my wife and I, and we have brought numerous friends and family members in too to try it… all of whom have left with full stomachs and smiling faces. Think fresh, home cooked food just like you remember from your childhood, grandma or mom’s cooked dinners. 5 or 6 choices of meats and option to mix 2 types on the roasts if you want. Everything is fresh, all the veg… even the gravy is made from the meat and veg stock like gran used to. Good veggie and vegan options too. Pub staff are friendly and welcoming, good range of beers and drinks at reasonable prices. Pub is old, cosy and comfortable with a lovely, large canalside rear patio for the summer and open fires inside in the winter. At a time where more and more of our traditional local pubs are closing down, it’s more important than ever to support the few good ones that are left. At the end of a weekend, I will always put my hard-earned money in the till of a fantastic little family-run freehouse like this, than those chain Greene King or Toby places serving microwaved, commercially cooked rubbish. A real hidden gem and so glad to have it right on our doorstep in Uxbridge ♥️
Popped into The General Eliott for a pint on a rainy day a few weeks ago around Easter. The location is great - right next to the Union Canal with a lovely view, and there’s convenient parking nearby. The atmosphere inside was cosy and inviting, and the outdoor seating overlooking the canal would be ideal on a sunny day. Service was quick but not particularly friendly. The bartender didn’t smile or make eye contact, which was a shame considering it wasn’t crowded. We only had a pint of Guinness, which was nicely poured and enjoyable. Didn’t try the food this time, but I’d be happy to come back and give it a go. They also have an events calendar with live music, quizzes, etc. A good spot overall with potential for a better experience with just a bit more attention to detail.
It has a nice side of the canal view. The food is tasty, but a bit pricey compared to others in the area. I ordered the special "Salmon in Cheese Sauce Roast" and it was reused from another dish, as I had pasta leftovers in the sauce. We arrived at 13:00. The server gave us a table and told us that we had to leave by 15:00. We were fine with this, but he kept rushing us for ordering and eat, to the point of trying to take away my wife's plate while she was still eating. We ended up leaving at 14:00. understandably, that was booked and we did not have a booking, that is why we accepted the deadline but rushing the people is not the way. This should be communicated to the waitperson, as it will influence the visitor's perspective.
This is a lovely pub in a lovely location. Staff are super friendly and the food is very good. There's good parking and you can even pull up a boat, if that's your style, along the canal that's right by the beer garden. Highly recommended!
Lovely little pub on the canal. Not visited for years but took the parents while I was back in the area. We went for lunch and the food was good pub food. Lots of outdoor seating when the weather is nice with a little children's area. There is a fence to keep the children safe from the water. I reasonable prices and have a car park so you don't have to try find somewhere outside as most of the surrounding area is permits. Will visit again. The pub was clean and the staff were lovely and friendly.
Nicely decorated pub with tasty food and very helpful staff. Good midweek deal with a free dessert or starter with a main Right on the canal
