The overall experience was good, and so was the food. Two relatively minor points that stopped the five star rating. First the pre-paid menu included a side of sourdough bread and butter, which did not arrive. Second, the children’s options were just simply smaller versions of the adult menu. This is not a children’s menu - especially for younger children. You need the more traditional options such as fish and chips or pasta

Food is always very good. Menu changes based on ingredients but always has classics. Service is friendly and helpful and willing to answer questions. Great classic pub vibe, real wood fireplace and a decent assortment of board games.

Had a wonderful Sunday afternoon. Lovely atmosphere and we stayed for the Sunday evening Quiz. It was great fun. Staff were really friendly and the food was really nice. Can recommend the Scotch egg and the complementary Yorkshire pudding was a great touch for the end of the evening. We're definitely coming back!

A neighbourhood pub, that we have frequented over the years. I love the homely, cosy interior, and the staff are very lovely. Often just to have a drink. But we recently discovered that they also do pretty good food. Portion sizes for the dishes are also generous. They provide snacks to nibble on as well like toasted bread and butter, and veggie crisps. But one thing to note is that this is not somewhere you go if you are in a hurry. It looks like they have a very small crew. The food service is very slow, we were waiting for about an hour before our main courses showed up, even when the pub was not even full, and we had come in off-peak times.

The best pub in Richmond. So much effort was made over the Christmas period and hard working staff. Had a fabulous Sunday lunch, completely packed full, great atmosphere. Food was hot and delicious. Lucky to have this pub on our doorstep.

Great pub, popped in before our visit to Kew Gardens, clean, friendly staff and nice food. TV screens all around with World Cup on!

Fantastic warm and friendly pub with great food, good selection of beers and a top notch old fashioned too If that’s your thing. The staff are helpful and friendly especially the manager who couldn’t do more to make myself and the group I was with feel welcome and looked after. She’s a superstar. Easy 5 ⭐️

I feel very fortunate to have a such a great pub as my ‘local’. I’ve never usually been a pub regular but have been drawn into becoming one here because of the many positives that ‘The Shaftesbury’ has to offer. Number 1 has to be the staff. The whole team are incredibly warm, friendly and welcoming. They go above and beyond to make sure everyone who visits has the best experience. Jack B is the best! A superb waiter with charm and charisma that makes you want to stay for another (or 2) and perhaps sample one of his epic cocktails. Fraser’s Sunday Quizzes are the perfect way to spend an evening with friends, while Karolina and James manage the whole team and each guest’s experience brilliantly. Having now sampled roasts, burgers, sausage and mash, fries and more here, I can vouch for the quality and flavour of the meals to be to a high standard.
