Decent roast, nice service, lovely coffee. Food needed a bit more seasoning but this is going to be our local from now on
Great pub with an amazing menu, the food is absolutely delicious. Parking is expensive but worth going for a treat. They have different meal deals on certain days and do a lovely Sunday brunch.
One of the few remaining pubs in the Isle of Dogs that's not in Canary Wharf, the Waterman's Arms still looks good after its relaunch five years ago. When I dropped in on a quiet weekday afternoon it was happily serving and entertaining two very different family groups at opposite ends of the pub. The old east end and the new are co-existing here. This place started live in the 1850s as the Newcastle Arms, presumably after the Newcastle Draw dock which is just metres away. It was to serve the Cubitt Town development. In the 1960s it first became the Watermans Arms and was owned by a TV personality. After a short period of fame it returned to a neighbourhood local and in 2011 became the Great Eastern. Latterly it operated with a hostel, struggling on for quite a few years. Its relaunch by Star Pubs and Bars in 2020 reclaimed older name which is proclaimed boldly across the top of the pub. The hostel space has now been replaced by ensuite rooms. I opted for a high table in the corner by two large windows, and a pint of Brixton Brewery's Reliance, which was an eye-watering £7.30. Apart from the wallet busting though, the pub was a peaceful, modern and pleasant place to spend half an hour. While the outside hasn't changed, except for signs proclaiming a hidden garden, coffees, teas and pastries, the indoors is contemporary, in keeping with the relatively new-built homes nearby. While it lacks a bit of the character which long time locals of the Isle might remember, the important thing is it's still open.
Great Sunday roast The pork belly is delicious with crispy skin. Huge Yorkshire pudding. The coffee is also worth mentioning as they use ozone’s beans
This is our go to pub after our weekend basketball game at the school nearby. Location is close to Thames (so scenic) and very close to a DLR station (so accessible). The staff are super nice and food and service is amazing. It is genrally always busy in Saturday at lunch time which is when we get there. There is a great outdoor area.
Amazing pub with hotel rooms on the top. Definitely worth to visit and really nice to stay overnight!
Very clean and modern pun in the town. The waitress was really friendly and nice. We ordered fish and chips and enjoyed it.
Pet friendly, renovated local bar/restaurant. Cozy environment, super clean, and the staff is always helpful and welcoming. It is nice just to pop in for a drink over the weekend. One of my ,go to’ places in the area.
Update July 2022: The pub’s fully reopened. The food’s been pretty consistently good, but they got a new chef and the new menu came out last weekend (see photo). It’s awesome. I had the coffee and brown sugar cured steak today (see photo), and it was amazing; one of the better steaks I’ve had in the last year. Last weekend I tried the pulled pork and mozzarella fries (our group’s favourite comfort food of the small plates), the squid ink rice that has a nice rich flavour to accompany other things, and my personal favourite the goat’s cheese bon bons, which I could eat as a meal. All of the small plates were fairly generous portions. The only things that were a bit meh were the hummus (not enough veg to use up the hummus), and the focaccia (a bit dry and doesn’t seem to fit as an accompaniment to anything else). Everything else was great. Super happy to have a local that serves a variety of options. From 2020: Great atmosphere, always friendly staff and now, outdoor seating as the world feel-opens! Friday night we got a table in the beer garden and had great burgers and pints. Can’t wait until they reopen the inside too.
We love this new edition to the neighborhood, we really like the sophisticated but at the same time warm decor, fantastic food, and excellent service. The menu rotates, some items being the same but other being new, which is very nice. The kitchen / food is truly excellent and we just love the food. Some favorites, beetroot salad, pate, fresh Cod, and really good soups, as well as wonderful mains, on the seasonal menu. A great place for quality food and drink with excellent service, traditional but with a modern twist. Warm service that is always extremely excellent. Highly recommend!
