A nice Christmas eve spent in the Optimist. The atmosphere was great. We had booked months ago for a table for 6 at 7.30pm. We sat and relaxed with our first drink only to realise ourselves that the kitchen closed at 8pm. It was now 7.50pm so we rushed to choose and order just in time. The food was okay. A nice evening.

Went for a few Xmas drinks this afternoon but had to leave only having 1 drink. It was like a children’s playground in there. Kids raging from 3 to 7 were running about, noisy and out of control. Parents did nothing management did nothing . They almost knocked the waitress over who was carrying a tray of food she didn’t look pleased. They weren’t just playing around their table there were running around the pub. We weren’t the only ones that were put out by this, a couple of ladies moved tables to get out of their way. Don’t mind kids in pubs but draw the line when the pub becomes a playground!

We had our work Christmas party here on 3/12/25 with table of 12 and chose the festive menu. The food was great and everyone really enjoyed their meals. The service was excellent friendly, attentive, and made the whole evening run smoothly. A fantastic place for a group celebration, highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really nice pub with a warm atmosphere. The food was delicious and freshly made, and the service was excellent — the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. A lovely place to relax and enjoy a good meal. Definitely recommend!

We pop in here for Friday dinner usually. Always lucky to find a free table then order using the app. All works very efficiently. While it does appear busy with plenty of people outside, drinks and food come along in a reasonable time. There's plenty of space available in the two car parks. Staff are friendly and efficient as well. All very easy going.

Had a lovely lunch at the Optimist this Mothers day. We accidently booked for 6 instead of 7 but it wasn't a problem on the day. The staff were so professional and friendly throughout our time there. Obviously it was a very busy day but i must say our food was lovely and again the staff were very attentive. They made our Mothers day one to remember. We will definitely return.

Only one bitter on draught. Barman stated that it was because they had to sell the Christmas ale as had a short shelf life. Very bizarre. Guinness sold in non standard glasses and without any care. It doesn't appear that the pub is that concerned about standards

The Optimist Tavern is set back from the roadside in a leafy enclave that you could easily believe is in deep countryside if you didn't know it is actually on the outskirts of London. Inside, the pub is spacious but has many cosy nooks and comfortable corners. The staff are welcoming and helpful, especially Dave, and the menu offers a wide selection of hearty pub favourites, such as fish and chips, and steak and Guinness pie, as well as curry and vegetarian and vegan options. Dishes are well presented and tasty. We particularly enjoyed the chicken, bacon and avocado salad, and we've loved our many visits.

First time eating at the Optimist, passed by a lot and tried to go for an early evening meal on a Thursday eve with my daughter, didn’t know we had to book. So I booked a table for 2 for last night, Friday 5th November. I told the bar man that I had booked a table for 2, to which I was told it was ‘over there’..wasn’t greeted or shown to our table. We ordered food at the bar, the woman was very polite and friendly. Our food was lovely, I went with a recommendation..very nice. We chatted while we were eating our starters and a young lad came over to ask if we ‘were done?’.. Such a shame as the food ans atmosphere were good..but no customer service at all. Maybe the lads that work the bar ans restaurant need a little training. Apart from that it was a pleasant evening.
