   Safestay was a great place to pass a short trip to York in. Felt very safe and the history of the building is so cool! Was close to local monuments and shopping as well as coffee shops and food. Book a bottom bunk if you want easy access to an outlet and a bunk that has privacy curtains.

   Booked a two night break with my daughter in a private triple room and it was amazing. Lovely room in the roof with original beams which was very clean and comfortable - tea and coffee provided. The hostel is just round the corner from the train station and a short walk from York centre. The building itself was absolutely stunning!

   Perfect location to be near the train and a lovely walk to sight seeing! Loved every person we interacted with during our stay! Clean rooms, service for storage for luggage for your checkout! Thank you for the great services and hosting us! I would recommend more towels to be provided, bath mat, and good soaps. Maybe a better chair as ours was a bit overused. I wouldn’t charge competitive rates to hotels because of these.

   Very clean, location was amazing and very close to everywhere we wanted to go. The dorm-style still had some privacy because of the curtains around the bed, which I liked very much. Would definitely recommend to other people coming to York!

   Nope. Central heating was way too high, and on the top bunk I was so hot I physically couldn't sleep. Went downstairs and the person told me to adjust the radiator in the room, but when I went back up it wasn't even on - it was a central heating problem and they weren't even aware. I had to use my spare clothes as wet towels to cool myself down to get to sleep. At about 2am the heating changed to aircon and that was better but up until then it wasn't good. No free tea/coffee or amenities. Good price - but there's a reason why.

   I stayed for a night with a friend. At first sigut, it's a beautiful old house. After the check-in hour (15), we had to wait for almost an hour in the reception because our room or beds weren't ready. The staff is really nice. The rooms are not clean at all, and the bathroom and showers are really dirty. We didn't have hot water to shower. The beds don't have plugs, so we charged our phones in the kitchen.

   Fantastic stay with helpful staff!!! I stayed here last month for 2 nights, it was good I booked the womens only dorm with en-suite. The only issue was the en-suite did smell from the sink and toilet was blocked. But it was ok for the time I stayed, I would definitely come again if I’m in York and highly recommend to anyone visiting York for the first time.

   Stayed last night in a ten bed room on a night where the place was fully booked; a hosteller arrived at midnight to check in and found the bed they were randomly assigned was taken and only the bed by the door was left. They complained to the night receptionist and the receptionist thought it would be a good idea to come to the room, turn all the lights on, wake everyone up, and hold a discussion with the person who had moved bunks and ask them to shift in the middle of the night instead of telling the guy who arrived late to sod off and take what he got rather than disturb nine other people. Turns out the guy who moved had already spoken with the day receptionist and the night guy hadn't seen the note. To be completely honest they need to train their staff with risk management, waking up someone who'd been out on the town in the middle of the night to move beds unnecessarily could have ended much differently.

   Overall, I would stay again if I was in a pinch, but would not recommend to a friend and would avoid if at all possible. Good: Lovely staff Spacious common areas Bad: Lack of pantry space General lack of storage in room Beds were not bolted to the wall, rather rickety Curtains did not fully cover and left one side exposed Ugly: No plugs or shelf for upper bunk (which can put you in a pretty rough situation for traveling and getting lost) Wifi did not work in room (spoke with friend who stayed months prior and this was an issue then) Bathrooms reeked of urine Overall, this hostel seemed to scrimp on money and take the short way wherever possible.
