When I arrived, the receptionist was eating her breakfast at the desk, seemed put out to be interrupted and reluctant to acknowledge I had an appointment. I had to show her my phone to prove it. She offered me a pedicure, I'd booked for a shampoo and blow-dry. I have straight, shoulder length, ordinary hair - easy hair, in other words - but forty minutes later, my hair was half dry, tangled and a mess. Several times I'd asked the hairdresser to detangle - she pulled and yanked at the tangles and frankly, it hurt and the hairdryer burned my neck. Clearly, she had difficulty manipulating the hairdryer's wires, had no gown to offer me and various bits of equipment fell to the floor. Finally, I took the dryer from her and rough dried the remaining half, knowing I'd have to go home and do it again, myself. I've had thousands of blowdries and I know the difference between a qualified hair stylist and someone who's faking it. Horrible, stressful experience, I'll never go back but at least with hairdressing, you're unlikely to catch an infection whilst those having manicures and pedicures may not be so lucky.
