Excellent care by Dr Neil Shah. His knowledge of hEDs, and MCAS was excellent and explained everything in great detail to my child too using visuals to help her understand. I feel very Lucky to have found him to look after my daughter.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Portland Hospital for the exceptional care my wife received during the delivery. The entire experience was smooth, professional, and comforting from start to finish. A special thank you goes to Nurse Scarlett. Her kindness, warm attitude, and high level of professionalism made a huge difference for us. She was incredibly supportive, attentive to every detail, and treated my wife with so much compassion and respect. We truly felt that we were in safe hands. Thank you to Scarlett and the whole team at Portland Hospital for making this important moment in our lives such a positive and memorable experience. Strongly recommended.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding Care from Midwife Jaz Taylor – Truly Exceptional! We had a planned C-section at The Portland Hospital, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have had Jaz Taylor as our midwife. From the moment we met her, Jaz radiated calm, confidence, and warmth — qualities that instantly put us at ease during what could have been an anxious experience. Her professionalism and compassion were outstanding. She guided us through every step of the process with such reassurance, explaining what to expect and ensuring we felt comfortable and supported throughout. During the procedure and recovery, she showed exceptional attention to detail and care, not only for me but also for my baby and my partner. What stood out most was Jaz’s genuine kindness — she treated me with such respect and empathy that it felt as though I was being looked after by someone who truly cared. Her presence turned what could have been a daunting experience into a calm, safe, and positive memory. Jaz Taylor is a true credit to The Portland Hospital and the midwifery profession. Her expertise, compassion, and dedication made an incredible difference to our birth experience, and I’ll always be deeply grateful for her exceptional care.

I had my baby at the Portland Hospital and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing given the reputation and the high cost. The delivery room was very old and unattractive. There was no sofa or proper place for my husband to rest, so he had to spend the entire night in a small armchair, which is unacceptable for such a hospital. The only positive aspect was the staff on the delivery floor – they were genuinely kind and friendly, which I really appreciated. However, once we moved to our room (a so-called “deluxe room” at £1,800 per night), things got even worse. The environment was depressing – old, small, and far from what one would expect for this price. I delivered at 5 a.m., and starting from 7 a.m. people from the staff began coming in and out, speaking loudly, with no respect for privacy or consideration that I had just given birth and was completely exhausted. On top of that, the checkout process took two hours because we had to wait for someone to come. Once we got home, we discovered that they hadn’t even given us the baby’s red book, which is essential. Overall, for the amount of money we paid, the experience was extremely poor. Apart from the friendliness of the delivery staff, everything else felt outdated, badly managed, and inconsiderate of patients’ needs. Sadly, I cannot recommend this hospital.

Lovely visit to The Portland Hospital, a nice warm welcome when we arrived. All staff were happy and friendly. Clear direction as to where we needed to go. Waiting area was clean with a good selection of things for children to do while waiting. Consultant was really nice and communication was clear and to the point. All questions were answered and we left satisfied with our appointment. Thank you! Would recommend and would happily return in future.

The expert care and compassion I experienced from the gynaecology ward was outstanding. Reception was great, my room was spotlessly clean, the nurses were absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much, hugely grateful for the opportunity to be cared for in such an exceptional hospital. Highly recommend.

I had my daughter at The Portland in 2022 and could not have wished for a better birthing experience. Everything was so organised, smooth and calm. The aftercare after my C-section was amazing, I felt cared for 24/7 and felt respected when in a vulnerable state. All the dr’s and nurses were so nice to me. My midwife Leanna who was with me all day and in the theatre for the surgery was amazing, then when the staff changed every single midwife, doctor and nurse were all great. I had to be checked out a few days before I gave birth, within about 20 minutes of my Dr arranging for me to come in, there was a room ready for me and I was immediately seen by a midwife, then a doctor and had all necessary checks. My husband never had to leave my side for the 3 nights I was there as there was a comfortable bed for him in my room. I would recommend The Portland 100% and am so thankful for my great experience!

Excelent experience. Every single person was kind, helpful, empathetic. My son did not realize what was going on, he just enjoyed every minute of being there. He loved having his food and the nice plasters. The nurse (Nunzia), the anaesthetic team and the doctor were also very supportive to parents. I would highly recommend this hospital.

Absolutely excellent service after a large scale surgery. All the nurses were incredibly kind & helpful. The rooms are private with Murphy beds if you'd like a relative to stay overnight with you. The physiotherapists were fantastic. And the food is truly excellent. The entire environment & staff truly helped with my healing process. Thank you all.

I am posting this on 27th Sept….. my son had SDR surgery at The Portland on 14th May. We had the most horrendous experience in the run up to surgery, even down to the pre op assessment. We waited 1.5 hours in reception without anybody noticing that we had been forgotten, when I mentioned it to the staff, they were rude and dismissive. I asked the nurse to hide the needles and blood bottles (as most would for an 8 year old having a blood test) She made no effort to comfort him, distract him, make him feel safe. Whilst the needle was in, she shouted ‘I need another bottle please’ at which point my son fainted and then vomited. Both practitioners watched and let me clear it up whilst my son cried and clung to me. I am a registered staff nurse myself. Never, have I experienced such lack of communication between teams, no initiative, no empathy. I was calling the billing team for 3 weeks prior to his surgery to pay. Nobody was able to give me a figure, and constant promises of calls back never happened. I was assured that because it wasn’t our fault, that surgery would still happen on the 14th May, and not to worry and this would be settled whilst he was in hospital recovering. Then, arriving early morning ready for admission, I was approached by a lady whom proceeded to tell me that we would not be able to go ahead due to monies outstanding. I explained the situation, and she was so rude, dismissive, and would not even make eye contact with us. My son was clearly distressed, and security were told to ‘not let us in the lift’ Eventually, we decided to just make our way to the ward on level 3, which the cashier was not happy about. We were honestly treated like criminals! Unbelievable that this should happen in any hospital, let alone a private one! I could go on with other problems, but to be honest, I find myself frustrated just talking about it! My son has been seeing a play therapist, and has been diagnosed with PTSD from his time at the Portland hospital and the lack of care and communication are mainly to blame. Since we got home, I have called site managers, governance admin etc etc, and I am always promised a call back by the end of the week to discuss the official complaint that I logged during our stay. Still no calls back, still no answers……. I almost find it hard to believe that they are still not bothering to contact me?! So, from a registered Nurse that has worked and managed medical wards, specialised, and also have my own private aesthetic and dermatology clinic- I STRONGLY advise any parents with children to stay away from the Portland. Quite frankly, you will be cared for better at your local NHS hospital!
