   I am writing about the disappointing experience I had at the salon today. I had previously visited the salon earlier this year, when Allison cut my hair beautifully at a very reasonable price, which left me very satisfied. Based on that positive experience, I brought my daughters (aged 5 and 14) for haircuts today, expecting the same level of service and professionalism. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We were attended to by a stylist (whose name I unfortunately did not catch, but who mentioned she has been with the salon for 35 years). She first trimmed my younger daughter’s hair, which was a very straightforward cut requiring no wash or blow dry. She then cut my older daughter’s hair, which had been washed by the receptionist beforehand. My older daughter’s hair is just below shoulder length and curly, and she also only required a trim. The issue arose when I enquired about the price, as I realised the salon only accepts cash. I was quoted £56 in total , which came as a shock since my own much longer cut and blow dry (very long thick hair) earlier this year had cost only £27 (unfortunately I cannot evidence this as this was cash in hand at that time). When I asked for a breakdown, I was told it was £14 for my younger daughter and £42 for my older daughter. There are several problems with this: 1) Incorrect Pricing for My Younger Daughter – Price list clearly states £12 for children under 5. When I questioned the £14 charge, the stylist dismissively asked the receptionist to hand me £2 back without so much as an apology. This is unacceptable and unprofessional, especially since he did not ask me the age to apply the correct pricing. 2) Unjustified Charge for My Older Daughter – I was told my 14-year-old was charged “long hair” pricing because she has curly hair. However, curly hair is not a stated pricing category on the pricing list, nor was this explained to me beforehand. Furthermore, the price listed for long hair is £39, yet I was charged £42. The stylist claimed this was because of “straightening”, again this was not explained to me beforehand. This feels like an arbitrary calculation rather than transparent, fair pricing. 3)Poor Attitude and Customer Service – When I politely asked for clarification, the stylist’s irritation was very clear. Rather than providing a professional explanation, she was dismissive and made me feel as though I was being difficult for asking. Even the receptionist looked surprised when she heard the final price she had to collect from me This experience left me feeling not only overcharged but also treated unfairly and disrespected. My concern is not the odd pound or two, but the principle of transparency, fairness, and basic courtesy in customer service. I was very respectful of the public nature of the business and other clients being there, so I did not create an issue at that point and paid up. I believe customers deserve to know in advance what they will be charged and why, and I certainly did not expect to be subjected to inflated, inconsistent pricing. Sadly, after this experience, I do not feel comfortable returning to this salon or recommending it to others unless this issue is addressed. I will be raising this as a formal complaint to the concerned bodies if not addressed.
