It is a 3 star hotel. Simple but clean. Good cooked breakfast. The pool isn't available anymore which is a pity. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Would I stay there again? Yes.

Rooms could do with an upgrade but well maintained. Food is good. Staff are lovely. Our server Ryan was very attentive and strikes up a good conversation. Location is fab as just over the road from Middlebrook, with shops & restaurants. Overall worth a stay.

Ryan is absolutely fantastic. Lovely bloke and extremely polite. The rooms are standard, but well maintained, clean and extremely comfortable. Breakfast is served fresh every morning with a variety of choice and the evening meals are ordered to a time of your choice. The food is as expected and the staff are marvellous.

Yesterday I was walking with my baby and really needed somewhere to stop, feed and change my baby, and just to re charge as it was a stressful morning. I had dropped my car off, at a garage, in a different town miles from home. I entered the hotel and was kindly greeted by a lovely lady, who could clearly see I needed just a little help to get sorted. This lady was so kind and caring so I asked her name. The lady replied. “Irene”. I thanked her greatly for how warm and inviting she was towards me. I would like to thank you once again. Irene, you was a Rae of sunshine towards my baby and I. It was a pleasure to meet you and what a lovely lady you are! Georgia Hartley.

Excellent customer service across all areas of the hotel. Dining and bar area - Irene was amazing. She couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. Her customer service was excellent. The other bar person working on Thursday 16th, evening meal (I never caught her name) was extremely helpful and professional. Lydia- Breakfast. The service was excellent and dinning area very clean and tidy. The ladies on reception were friendly and accommodating for our groups needs. Amazing customer service. Lastly, the cleaning staff (Vanessa, Kirsty , Jen and Tracy) provided a first class service 13th-17th October 25. The room was very clean and the room was freshly prepared each day. Thank you ladies. Great job Mercure Hotel, Black Rod, Bolton.

Stay at this hotel regularly for work, the staff are always pleasant. Unfortunately it suffers from chronic under investment and defects have been patched over. It could now do with complete refurb.

Nice probably about 10yrs ago. I visited on business on 2 separate occasions recently and was underwhelmed. The room was tired, smelled of mould and didn't have a plug socket near the bed for my phone overnight. The restaurant provided some very nice food, but at an eye wartering price for what you get, £7 for 3 chicken wings, £4 for the "Selection of warm breads" (nearly half a sliced baguette) and £17 for the breakfast (luckily mine was included). The pool facilities are looking dated too, the green moss growing on the windows, rust stained walls around the hand rails and very worn changing room. Over the few days of my first stay it rained quite heavily, the water was pouring onto the hotel stairs and the bucket layed out for it was doing no good, upstairs the roof was leaking into the stairwell (the lift was out of order both times I visited). I wouldn't pay to stay here, but it did the job for my trip at least and the staff were nice.

Stay once a month visiting family. Overall good value, comfy beds, good location. This visit we waited nearly 10 mins for someone to check us in and then no apology for the wait. The shower was the worst we have had ,all the bathrooms need some improvement, water running hot and cold and flaking paintwork. The rooms are a decent size and are always clean and warm. Lots of positives, good location, free ample parking, nice bar area, reasonably priced, easy access to motorway network. Would have been an 8 score but for the poor check in experience and poor shower.

After stopping at this hotel a couple of times we still have some disappointments. Its the simple things that make a stay so much better but not this time. Batterys flat in tv remote, the wifi is absolutely rubbish, no toilet roll, the 24/7 room service for food we were told they weren't serving at 10pm at night. Come on macure get yout finger out.

Attended for a Murder Mystery evening which was great fun! Staff were really helpful and friendly. Pool and gym also great. Steam room not working and saunas actually in each gender changing room so couldn't sit together. Hotel and room getting a little dated now. Shower was pathetic, water pressure awful to the point had to have a bath instead.
