   I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Holiday Inn Chester South was extremely disappointing, largely due to the way the situation was handled by the hotel manager. I booked 4 nights in late June for a trip to North Wales with friends. On arrival, the room was in poor condition: the air conditioning was broken during a hot summer period, the room was very dusty, and because they had to keep the windows open all day to cool the room, there were spiders and insects inside. With three people sharing the room, this was clearly not acceptable. The following day, we spoke directly to the hotel manager, who told us that another room with working air conditioning could not be guaranteed. We therefore decided to leave the hotel early and move elsewhere. The hotel manager agreed to refund the remaining nights and partially refund the first night due to the poor room conditions. However, despite multiple requests, the hotel manager refused to provide written confirmation or receipts at the time, promising instead to send them later. No email ever arrived. I was eventually forced to make a significant diversion back to the hotel late that evening just to obtain basic written confirmation, which was only possible thanks to a helpful junior staff member. Several months later, my credit card provider informed me that the refunds had been processed incorrectly, with additional charges applied instead of refunds. Over the following weeks, the same hotel manager repeatedly failed to resolve the issue, promised call-backs that never happened, and denied any error despite clear evidence from my card provider. Most concerning was the fact that a refund of £447.08 that was clearly owed was delayed by almost six months, and was only processed after the matter was escalated and reviewed by another manager, who resolved it quickly once the statements were properly examined. While some frontline staff were polite and helpful, the conduct of the hotel manager who handled this case caused unnecessary stress, wasted time, and completely undermined confidence in the hotel’s professionalism. I would strongly advise future guests to check room conditions on arrival and carefully monitor any refunds or charges if issues arise.

   Posting the below on behalf of my mom and dad. Thanks for making his birthday great! The staff at the Wrexham Road Holiday Inn were really friendly and helpful. Lucy at reception helped with organising a trip to Liverpool showing us both bus and train timetable routes. Overall our experience was very good with onsite parking, which meant we didn't need to use our car while there, with bus stops within close proximity for the city centre. The room was clean and comfortable with all amenities with a pleasant welcome message upon arrival. We would certainly use this hotel again.

   I was a little disappointed when I pulled into the hotel car park as the building was dark, foreboding and unwelcoming. That all changed once I got inside the reception bar area and common areas were bright, modern and welcoming. We ate in the reception bar are on both nights and the food was excellent, to say the least, and service was fast and friendly. We had Pizza first night and the Beef Encounter Burger. Both excellent. A pint of larger was pretty expensive I thought at £6.00 We had a twin room and it was modern, clean and really comfortable. Also when booking the twin room, it’s was confirmed as ‘ cannot be guaranteed’ and that you may get a double bed. I was travelling with my special needs brother, who needed his own bed, and I would have lost my full payment if I’d cancelled and booked elsewhere. I emailed the Hotel directly, explaining, and they said they’d make sure we got twin beds. In general really good experience the staff were also pleasant and friendly.    Great hotel on the outskirts of Chester. Approx 15 min drive to the zoo, Cheshire oaks and Chester city centre. Was slightly worried after booking as read some reviews that didn't rate this hotel but we found it great. Staff very friendly and always happy to help. Bar area nice, breakfast and bar food we had very tasty. Room clean and tidy. Had a problem with the room door not working properly but the handy man arrived promptly and sorted very quickly. Pool and gym facilities looked lovely but didn't use on this occasion. Would stay again.

   Late January 2023 - have tried to contact this hotel on numerous occasions but never any answer. Is it now closed? - nothing on the website to say this but their booking calendar indicates that they have no accommodation at any time during 2023. Does anyone know what's going on here?

   Weird. When asking by email if dogs were allowed for an already booked stay in May 2023 the front desk replied the hotel is closed and they don't know if it will reopen by May. What ?! So your hotel is closed and you are not warning your customers, seriously ? Cancellation done. What a bad customer experience.

   Ideal location central to Chester itself, nice clean well maintained troons every time we've stayed and sraff always very polite and friendly. We can highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a pleasant stay and not just a little room a bed and a kettle.

   We had a great time. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Food great quality, drinks good quality and fairly priced. Room very clean & comfortable. Only slight drawback for some, would be the long winding walk to our executive room, but we were warned beforehand with an apology. Used the pool which, once again was a very pleasant experience. Would certainly return for another stay.

   We stayed at the holiday inn Chester south for 2 nights whilst visiting family in North Wales. Very good location if you're travelling by car, Chester zoo is just 10 minutes away. I was really pleased to find the hotel could accommodate 5 of us (2 adults, 3 children) in one room as most hotels it's a maximum of 4. The room was large and set up as 1 King, 1 single and a double sofa bed with plenty of space left for moving around and getting ready. The bathroom was big too with a bath and powerful overhead shower. I would highly recommend the hotel to families as it's very relaxed and child friendly. We used the pool area twice which the children really enjoyed. Cleanliness in the pool area and the hotel room could of been better but it didn't devalue from our stay. Breakfast both mornings was great, plenty to choose from including cereals, continental and cooked breakfast. The staff in the restaurant were lovely and very attentive. First morning we were greeted at the restaurant doors by a jolly lion mascot which started our day off fabulously as we were heading to Chester Zoo, second morning the hot drinks machine wasn't working but staff had no problem bringing any hot drink orders to the table. I'd like to especially mention Emily on front desk who was professional and polite in all interactions. We requested more pillows and an extra quilt the first night and it wasn't an issue in the slightest and brought to our room promptly. The hotel is a bit tired in places but overall it was a great and we would definitely stay again when visiting the area.
