Recently passed my CP rating with Ric at Northern Skies. The school delivers the BHPA syllabus and Ric guides you through every step safely, patiently and at a pace to suit you. His passion for the sport is infectious and the 1 to 1 tuition is first rate. The guys around the field are all friendly, helpful and supportive which adds to the experience. I trained with Northern Skies and achieved my BHPA CP rating. The training given is thorough, safe and very enjoyable. Ric, the CFI, is a top bloke and very friendly. He is always willing to pass on his extensive knowledge of the sport to help students develop confidence as well as the skills required to take to skies knowing that they are as safe as possible. During my initial flights I was in constant radio contact with Ric so that he could guide me through take off, mid air manoeuvres and finally the landing. As I started to learn the necessary skills, Ric would gradually let me make my own decisions, whilst still on the radio if required, until I was flying on my own. I started flying last September 2021 and in August 2022 completed a 100km cross country flight round the Humber Bridge. Awesome flight and something I will never forget. Cheers Ric & Northern Skies

Having tried a number of BHPA schools I was looking for a school that offers a personal experience with a low ratio of students to instructor to maximise my training investment. Having now achieved my CP, the training, advice and coaching doesn’t stop. Ric continually provides feedback and valuable advice to ensure you continue to develop your skills and experience as the flights get longer and more complex. I did a lot of research before committing to a BHPA school. After speaking to people who knew what they were talking about I chose Northern Skies. I’m so glad I did. The CFI (Chief Flying Instructor) Ric is so easy to get along with and very professional. Being a little older (me) I learn at my own pace and Ric was so brilliant at keeping me focused. I was lucky enough to be one of the first students through Northern Skies since gaining BHPA accreditation so everything was done correctly and in a safe manner as it should be. The sessions are thought about and Ric has an excellent way of explaining the processes step by step. It wasn’t long until our group of 5 trainees took to the skies for the first time and we were prepared. It’s a daunting step taking off for the first time and Ric kept everyone clam and focused over the radio with every flight. I’ve now built up approximately 75 hours and developing my skills with every flight. Ric is always on hand to give advice and support. I can’t recommend choosing this school enough.
