My wife and I had contact with BDH for over a year. All staff were polite and considerate. The admin seems a weak point with sometimes not finding my wife’s contact details. Our reason for contact was my wife’s depression and anxiety. Both she and I are 78 years. With a local authority qualified social worker background of many years I felt I was well informed about much of the mental health issues. The only ‘treatment’ as such was from a trainee psychologist who was very helpful and committed but limited by her experiences. It was somewhat text book ideas. The other medical input was basically to review and moderate medications and check on progress or lack of it. My wife did make progress but was nowhere near well when it was decided to discharge her. I personally believe that the service offered was rationed and we had used it all up. So my wife was passed back to the GP for whatever help or support she could provide. Just before the discharge I had set out in detail what issues still remained and made suggestions of what might help. This was basically ignored because I think that with the elderly the expectation is that you probably will never be completely well and you just have top accept this. I don’t think the doctors don’t care but I felt there was little in the way of ‘blue sky thinking’ to use an old term and their lack of dynamic ideas was likely a consequence of under funding over many years and resource limits.

Unknowlegeable, unhelpful, discharged mother with dementia and GP had to make new referral for her 4 days later due to sharp and serious decline in her health due to dementia. Continually cancelling appointments due to 'management training'. Why are receptionists making patient appointments if 'management training" is scheduled?? Why no communication within the admin teams??
