Amazing Mental Health Facility with excellent staff that help their patients who require help and needs such as vulnerability and who are need of support with their mental complex needs . Amazing facility for those who needs support. Thank you so much!

What I witnessed in this hospital was astonishing. My mother was brought to Crane ward under section 2 of mental health act 1983 on 1st of August 2025 against her will. She was physically healthy but on 22nd of that same month her health had deteriorated to the point where she was having difficulty walking because of swollen ankles, thighs and other symptoms. She is even having a hard time speaking. I am constantly afraid it may deteriorate until her death. It's obvious the medications they started are causing the side effects. It doesn’t take a professional to know this yet they act arrogant and refuse to stop the medications as if they know something. I now see the results of the medication so I can’t accept lies anymore. Furthermore the culture in the hospital is toxic. Patients are punished for their mental illness in hidden ways. When asked for annoying assistance, the staff lack the patience to deal with it. They let out steam by intentionally ignoring, misinterpreting and avoiding. These are just a few tactics but the underlying strategy is the use of the patient's mental illness to mask abuse. There has to be a way to enforce accountability otherwise patients will continue to suffer.

My experience at Crane Ward, Riverside Mental Health Centre, was disturbing and traumatic. This facility is dangerously unsafe, unclean, and completely lacking in appropriate care standards. Vulnerable patients are left at risk in an environment that is chaotic, demoralising, and completely unfit for recovery. The level of misdiagnosis and negligence is staggering. I witnessed patients being discharged prematurely, without being stable or properly assessed. Dr. Das, the consultant psychiatrist, was cold, dismissive, and unwilling to listen. Her assessments felt rushed and impersonal, and in several cases—including mine—she appeared to completely overlook context, history, or actual symptoms. It’s hard to trust any treatment plan when the diagnosis itself is questionable. The ward is filthy—basic hygiene is clearly not a priority. Showers were broken, toilets were unsanitary, and the entire space felt neglected. The atmosphere on the ward is one of control, not care. Staff were frequently rude, unresponsive, and in some cases downright cruel. Patients were spoken to with disrespect, and concerns were brushed aside or met with hostility. What’s even more horrifying is that there have been deaths on this ward, and rather than being a wake-up call, it feels like business as usual. The culture here is not therapeutic—it’s toxic. It is clear there is a systemic failure of leadership, training, and oversight. This is not a place of healing. It is a place where people are made to feel worse, not better. I would strongly urge anyone considering treatment here—whether for themselves or someone they care about—to look elsewhere. This is not a safe or humane environment.

Absolutely appalling experience – this place is making me worse, not better I came to this hospital expecting support and care, but instead, I’ve found myself in a dangerous and distressing environment. While some staff members are okay, others treat patients with shocking disrespect and lack of empathy. I have genuinely felt unsafe during my stay – I’ve had shoes thrown at me, been threatened and targeted by other patients, and watched as staff stood by or got hurt themselves trying to intervene far too late. This is supposed to be a place of healing, but instead, it feels more like a prison filled with chaos. The atmosphere is toxic, and there’s a clear lack of control and structure. The constant tension and violence from other patients make it impossible to feel safe or begin any kind of recovery. I am risking my life by being here. The system is failing us. This hospital is not a sanctuary – it’s a terrifying and traumatic place that is pushing people further into crisis rather than helping them out of it. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. Something has to change.

Still struggling to heal from my extremely traumatic experiences of being on their ward. The staff are appalling and not all safe to be around vulnerable people. I am yet to even receive so much as an apology or acknowledgement of serious complaints nor any after care or help to deal with the TRAUMA they put me through

My son spent 28 days in Frays ward, very nice friendly and professional staff, especially the doctor. My son had his own room with a bathroom. Food was amazing.

This place is not a therapeutic atmosphere for people suffering with mental health issues. I was admitted onto Frays Ward as an informal patient that was experiencing psychosis. During my stay on the ward, the only treaent I received was medication. They dose patients up on benzo's so they are walking zombies. Any time you approach a member of staff for a chat or to raise an issue you get given meds and get told to go away to your bedroom. They have no therapeutic activities to keep patients occupied, have insulting staff members that like to us force on patients and they don't like it when someone challenges their decisions. I have had a very unenjoyable stay during my time here. There is no communication between doctors and patients and even less between patients and nurses. The TV is stuck on 1 channel that the staff refuse to change and people are just left alone in their head. The food is awful, the kind you wouldn't feed to your dog. I really would not recommend going to this hospital if you are suffering with mental health issues. They falsify information and do not let patients know their rights. Overall it is a very sad state to see where tax payers money is being spent in a hospital like this. Staff need lessons in how to be courteous and empathetic.

As a family member, most hospitals could not be bothered with you, but the staff at this hospital took the time to explain everything step by step as it was happening, and I was treated with respect at all times! My loved one was confused and disoriented and was cared for very well. It was really a breath of fresh air, and other hospitals could take note, obviously the patients have a different memory because it is a tough time for them, but my loved one improved rapidly and the staff called me whenever he needed anything and even took the trouble of combing the hospital for a lost parcel! Thank you!
