Had cataract surgery 2.5 years ago and couldn't fault it! However I had a very different experience in January for my 2nd cataract surgery and would definitely not recommend the SpaMedica clinic in Watford! Watford is now a training hospital which is wasn't 2.5 years ago Unbeknownst to me my surgery was carried out by a trainee surgeon. In SpaMedica's booklet it clearly states that the patient should be informed prior to surgery if a trainee is to perform the procedure, and that the patient has the right to decline and postpone until a qualified surgeon can undertake it. This was not carried out in my case and led to a painful procedure and a less than satisfactory outcome! The complaints procedure takes a lifetime and is very poor! Thankfully I will never have to visit this place again and wish good luck to all who do!!

As a sufferer of PTSD the thought of cataract surgery was extremely alarming for me. Thanks to all the staff at the Watford clinic, from the reception team on arrival through to the surgeon and discharge nurse at the end of the day, every single person did their very best to be supportive and keep me calm and I am truly grateful. The same applied at my preoperative assessment. An excellent team!

My mum had her cataract procedure done here late last year and she had a really horrible experience with an incredibly rude and unprofessional doctor. When she went in for her procedure, she was told that the machine was faulty and was kept waiting for over an hour. The staff then claimed it was fixed, so the doctor started the procedure and opened up her eye. The machine broke down soon after starting, and instead of reassuring my mum or letting her know when itβll be fixed or providing alternative options, the doctor patched her eye up and told her to go home and come back in 2-3 days. At this point, my mum was in such a vulnerables state and was feeling completely helpless with an incision in her eye. The doctor then completely disappeared and wouldnβt come back to answer any of my parentsβ questions. He finally came back ages after my father repeatedly asking for him, and refused to answer any questions about what had happened, or how far they had been into the procedure before the machine broke down (so they knew how to look after it at least). When asked these questions, he was incredibly rude to my father, saying βare you a doctor? Well then what difference does it make to you?β. Very unprofessional, demeaning, and downright rude. He also kept saying to my mum that she was βvery unluckyβ while she was already in a really helpless state. Instead of being reassuring, he called her unlucky multiple times and it made her even more upset and anxious. My parents decided that they were not comfortable leaving it for 2-3 days so asked the staff to please give them another option. They then kept my mum waiting for another 3 hours while another machine was delivered from another location. By this point my mum really did not feel comfortable being operated on by this doctor, but she just wanted it to be done and over with. Once the surgery started again, the doctor kept being rude to my mum and even told her off. He said to her (very rudely) βstop moving or Iβll have to stopβ. My poor mum wasnβt even the one moving. It was the nurse pressing the pedal next to the bed/chair she was on that was making her move. The nurse had to tell the doctor this was the case to stop him from telling my mum off repeatedly. The nurse and assisting staff was lovely to my mum and tried their best while all of this was going on, but the damage was done - she was really traumatised by the experience and is having ongoing issues with her eye. Part of being a doctor or healthcare provider is looking after your patients and providing reassurance when they need it. On top of the broken machine, the doctor completely ruined the experience and made it a hundred times worse with his unprofessional and rude attitude.

Was very surprised how quickly my cataract surgery was arranged after my assessment appointment. Had first eye done yesterday 8/1 experience from start to finish excellent. Kind supportive staff. Especially the chap who signed me in at front door.He deserves a mention for kindness helpfulness, nothing too much trouble. My actual surgery from entering the theatre to being escorted out to wait for drops and advice on aftercare was 15 minutes. Fantastic service.

Very grateful for the superb work done at Spa Medica Watford. The appointment system is very fast. I've had two surgeries done in two months. All staff were caring and efficient and surgeon took care to make me comfortable. Another special mention for Kevin whose considerable efforts to make me smile were only partially successful though not through lack of trying. All things considered a very good experience.

Many thanks to all the lovely staff at Spa Medica for their care and expertise looking after my Mum for her cataract ops. The whole process was great, everything was well explained by Kevin, and we both felt very comfortable for every visit. Thanks particularly to Lily and Anne Marie, and also the young man who held Mum's hand when she got a bit nervous during the procedure this morning. Also thanks very much to Kevin - his good humour and politeness went a long way towards making the process a great one.
