I took a 9 day tour of baghdad and southern iraq with al Waseilah tours, and it was frankly a dream come true. To be able to walk along the Tigris, explore Babylon, climb the spiral minaret of samarra and the ziggurat of Ur, and bask in the splendor of the holy shrines of karbala and najaf, simply priceless. Equally memorable were the buzz and many contradictions of modern baghdad, the incredible food, and the Iraqi people themselves, and the verve with which they live life. Adam crafts a well balanced and extremely flexible itinerary, truly tailored to each visitors interests. Though I didnt meet Adam, I was accompanied by his brother Mousa, nephew Muhanad, and ministry of tourism agent Moshen, who were all gracious, funny, fun, and great company, handling the many checkpoints and logistical hurdles of travel in iraq with aplomb and providing valuable insights along the way. Highly recommended! I hope Iraq eventually can get back on the tourism radar, because it surely deserves to be.
The team at Alwaseilah tours was a joy to work and travel with. If you want to visit Southern Iraq, they are the go-to company. Despite all the complications of getting into the country, and through the country as a tourist, Adam, Mousa and Muhanad, make the process really easy. I travelled with them for 12 days (to Baghdad, Najaf, Karbala, Babylon, Nasiriya, the Marshlands, Basra) - the agenda was efficiently structured with knowledgeable historians, good drivers, decent hotels, and a really immersive experience into the Iraqi people, culture and their way of life. Absolute wonderful experience with just solidly good human beings. I miss the team a lot and Iraq already!
