   A phycologist friend of mine recommended John in 2019 to me. I'd been struggling for quite some time, not knowing what was wrong, and crying all the time. After meeting John he suggested schema therapy with imagery rescripting. I didn't really know how it would work, and at 40 thought that it would be difficult to change things I've been doing all my life. From the first session, I was shocked what came out and the emotions that I had. As each session went on, John was able to get more and more out of me and willing to challenge me when needed. Sometimes the sessions were really tough, but John helped me through them, it felt like he was feeling my emotions with me. We'd look at sad memomories and happy ones to understand the impact they had in my life. With the therapy I realised the things I'd been doing all my life that didn't help me, such as pleasing others or taking on board what other peoples views were. Coming to the end of my therapy, I seemed to be able to work on myself with very little prompts from John, and it was that point I had carried out the work I needed yo and could take over this myself, it was so emotional as you think you'll never be able to do it alone. But John helped me realise I'd got this and he was there if really needed but that I'd been doing it myself so was time for the sessions to finish. I now do work on myself as and when required, but it comes natural and I don't even know I'm doing it. I highly recommend John, and so grateful I was introduced to him.

   I found John when I was seeking a Psychologist/Therapist to help me address a number of issues I was living with. Working out of the Therapy Rooms in Wetherby helped as these are easy to access. There are a lot of Therapists out there but I wanted to work with someone that was a qualified Psychologist. John has an excellent trusting manner and a robust methodology of helping people to identify their behaviour patterns and perpetuating mental health conditions. I found his approach using schema therapy very beneficial, especially understanding my schema modes and maladaptive behaviours. My time with John has helped me enormously and I can now focus on enjoying the rest of my life with greater balance and happiness. The support provided by John during the therapy sessions has also provided the checks and balances needed for me not to return to the behaviours I previously presented.

   Before seeing John for therapy I had tried every resource to help with anger and impulsivity. CBT didn’t help, medication didn’t help and no other talking therapy was ever offered through the GP. I have ADHD, but the medication alone wasn’t working. The impetus to take the plunge and seek a private therapist came when I started to gamble to deal with my emotions. I first saw a different therapist who advised from my history that it would be better for me to work with a male therapist. She also advised that Schema therapy would be beneficial. And that’s how I found John. I had sessions with John for over a year. All my sessions were based on Schema therapy. At first I could not understand how this process would ever solve any of my issues. But I just went with it and have never looked back. Though my original complaint was to stop gambling, through therapy with John I also stopped having anger outbursts. I am closer to my wife and children. I am more relaxed and confident. I am able to face confrontation without worrying I loose control. This especially helps me at work. John is an amazing Psychologist and such a warm and genuine guy.
