I'm surprised this website is still on Google bearing in mind the SRA have closed the firm down. We were six weeks in to a purchase only to find out we needed an alternative firm to act for us in December and we are financially out of pocket.
I would not recommend GW LEGAL at all. If I could, I would give 0 stars. I received a bill of £858 (ABORTIVE COSTS) for doing absolutely nothing… surely this is not right…I asked for more in details statement for what actually they billing me this absurd amount, and of course they don’t bother explaining instead will send you rude emails. Elaine B. diverted the subject and constantly referring me to their Terms and conditions. GWL just a reminder! You are there to offer support and legal services to your clients, instead you provide stress, power and intimidation (or so I concluded from your emails), all you gave us was unprofessional services, unexplained bill, stress and pressure; this type of service requires ending, fooling people with your poor services and high fees (for doing nothing as other solicitor did your job) it’s not acceptable. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
DO NOT USE these when moving house!!! Our buyer used these (obviously didn't read any reviews). Nothing but a nightmare through the whole process. Don't care for deadlines or targets. Don't like to answer the phone when estate agents or my solicitor called to chase up. Don't answer emails. They confirmed they had searches back on 2nd of May but then didn't raise any enquiries until 4 weeks later despite my solicitor requesting updates. I'm surprised we actually moved in the end. These people are useless and just do not care. Absolute joke of a conveyancing firm. 1 star is too much!!!!
Absolutely unbelievable service. I cant thank Elaine and her team at GW Legal enough. I had 2 remortgage offers running out and we managed to get it completed in approximately 13 working days and make the deadline by 2 days and im now clear of my bridging loans. As expected, on instruction, Elaine said she couldn't promise to definitely make the deadline and obviously that's par for the course with any mortgage/remortgage but I still appreciated the immediate transparency. Elaine gave constant updates via email, chased things and did everything within her powers to complete. We would have likely completed in 10 working days if the lease information had been replied to sooner from the developer. Elaine, thank you very much and I will definitely use you in the future.
This a review I'm comfortable to give now that the post completion period of my purchase seems to be done. I think that with an allegedly complicated case it is maybe not that surprising that my sale took a long time (11 months, no chain). I do think, however, that GW lacked a level of diligence that unnecessarily dragged the process out. One particular matter stood to extend the process by nearly 6 months. Easily solved with some direct communication between me and the estate agent. GW is not terrible, but it is on the underside of good service. It's worth being mindful of that. It just isn't good. The online portal (the one that updates you on the progress of your case) isn't updated in line with events in the case. Chasing seems to happen on a weekly basis and doesn't escalate particularly. There is a general sense that correspondence to opposing solicitors' is being sent for correspondence's sake even when responses are unlikely to come. This leads to stagnation of the case through a lack of investigation of the reasoning behind the delays. They don't communicate about the lack of progress in a case until far down the line. Very hard to know that anything is going wrong. Basically my case could have gone on forever with them if there wasn't some intervention.

If I could give zero stars I would. They just don't seem to care. They email instead of phoning and hide behind a central number. I feel as if the Remortgage Team and Conveyancing Support people have treated me with utter disdain. The senior partners don't respond to requests for action. USE ANOTHER FIRM
Avoid this company if you actually want to sell your house. Dreadful communication, never replied to my emails or my estate agent’s emails. Didn’t chase outstanding items from 3rd parties. I ended up doing most of the chasing myself to make sure the sale went through on time. I think it’s luck of the draw in terms of who deals with your case as I had one excellent experience with them in the past.
