After being a member for 15 years, I have recently left this place. The gym is filthy and un-maintained. Some of the equipment is actually dangerous. Jacuzzis and steam room have not been available since reopening after COVID-19. As a result of all of this, I've noticed people care less and less about the place and treat equipment with no respect. While this doesn't apply to all of the staff, most of the time upon entering the gym, the person working on reception seems barely able to look up from their phone or away from the conversation they're having with the other staff member. I speak to lots of people who say the same thing and nobody is really sure what purpose the staff actually serve. After 15 years, it is very sad to see the decline of what used to be a very well run, clean gym and welcoming environment. It certainly isnt a place that feels conducive of health and fitness.

On the hottest day of the year, the air conditioning for the gym wasn’t working. Fair enough, these things happen. On the same day, the water fountain was out of order, so there was nowhere to refill water bottles, and had been out of order for weeks. The place is a joke. They’re quick to get you to refer a friend to the gym, but don’t reinvest any of the membership fees (expensive I might add) in to updating equipment and sorting out the problems they have there. There’s always something out of order, the changing rooms are seriously outdated, mens toilets and shower blocks are disgusting - the list goes on. UPDATE: the leg extension has been out of order now for over 8 weeks. When you ask staff, you are given no sense of reassurance that this will ever be fixed. The air conditioning also hasn't worked AGAIN for the last couple of weeks. This has supposedly been 'upgraded' recently, but the gym is always stifling. Completely and utterly ridiculous.

As a person who has attended this gym for over a year and has experienced multiple across the country this is a very average gym. 25% is full of the cheap technogym line (yellow and black machines) 25% is free weights and the 'purestrength' line (Red and black machines) which are really solid machines to use. The other 50% is cardio miscellanea which i have no interest and limited experience with. However the air condition has been broken for months and the water fountain has been out of order since the start of summer. If they fixed these issues I'd increase by at least another half star but the biggest issue is 5-7 pm when it's bear impossible to do a structured workout as it is PACKED. They must invest in either expanding or even just increasing the quantity of the purestrength line or replace the mainstream technogym line with better brands (like nautilus, cybex, ect) if they were to do so I'd be willing to pay a slightly higher price. Due to these issues I've had friends who have left and I am also considering this, however the commute to a higher quality gym (like world fitness in Doncaster) is too far at the moment. Edit: They've now fixed the water fountain but the LED red lights around the weights section are either broke or no longer get turned on.

Poor condition, next to no equipment and for some reason, remarkably busy even in off peak times. Used to go to JD gyms in Castleford and that was much cheaper and with fantastic availability of machines and weights by comparison. Do not sign up for a contract without a visit. This is so bad that it must be seen to be believed. Looking at other people's reviews, I am terrified of what an ordeal cancelling will be.

Was fairly quiet at 2pm, so able to use equipment without waiting. All seems to be in working order. More busy when I left at 4.30. Hygiene stations still in place, seemed clean. Some areas, lockers, showers are now showing their age. 11.11.22. Sadly must add now that they have stopped the hygiene stations, you need to bring your own wipes if you are in the vulnerable category.

I’ve been going to this gym for years and years and never before has it been this bad. It offers pool and facilities but the ‘facilities’ are NEVER working. The steam room is always broken, so are the hot tubs and there is no eagerness to fix them; “they’ll be fixed soon” when is soon? Because it hasn’t been fixed for about 2 years! Did you know it now closes at 6pm on a Saturday? Not sure about what time on a Sunday but for this member it doesn’t matter, I’m signing up somewhere else tomorrow. I don’t think I’ll ring them to cancel either because last time I rang I was on hold for 30 minutes before giving up. Oh and also, everyone’s gym membership cost varies wildly depending on who signs you up and when you signed up - you’re probably paying much more than everyone else. This post isn’t even out of spite, the gym is just awful, don’t go.

Just joined DW great gym! Staff very friendly and helpful. The gym equipment is very modern and lots of choice. The changin rooms are very clean and spacious.the gym is also clean with paper towels and spray to clean the equipment after use. The atmosphere is great too, no posers which is good, all shapes and sizes. The reviews I saw on here do not match up with what they are saying! I joined the selby DW from Leeds DW and was a little apprehensive because of the reviews on here. I was shocked because the staff are friendly and the gym is lovely. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone.

Myself and my partner have recently started swimming on a weekend, as I'm pregnant and it's really good for me and the baby. We've been to Selby Leisure Center the last few times but it gets quite busy so we thought we'd try out here to see if it would be quieter. We asked for two adults to swim only to be told it would be £10! We questioned this and they explained that its members only and the £10 would be a day pass. We were only planning on being there half an hour so we asked if they did a day pass, only to be told no (which is a complete lie, if you go on the DW Fitness website you can sign up for a 3 day free pass. They didn't even bother to offer this to us) They then asked if we wanted to become members. Why would I want to tie myself into a contract with a fitness center? I'm 5 months pregnant and probably won't be exercising for a while after the baby arrives, AND I only swim once a week so it wouldn't be worth it. The lady (who I imagine is one of the managers, as she was called to the reception to talk to us about the price) was super sassy too! Definitely won't be stepping foot in there again, even if I was considering a membership at some point. No wonder Selby Leisure Center gets so busy when this is one of the alternatives. It only cost £7.50 for two adults to swim as opposed to the £20 these cowboys tried to charge us! The facilities at Selby Leisure Center are really good and the staff are friendly and helpful (which is much more than I can say for these guys).I know where I'll be spending my money.
