Had a lovely meal here a few weeks ago. Staff were pleasant and speedy. However, atmosphere wasn’t much to shout about. Also, horrendous layout. I would return nonetheless.
One of many Wetherspoons in Liverpool but we chanced upon this on recommendation from another hotel guest we met in the lift, as was nearest for us. We were in Liverpool for 4 nights, found it on the first day and visited every eve after our meal as we liked the vibe
Smaller spoons in city centre over two floors, close to Matthew Street (Home to the Cavern) Good value food and drinks.
The Welkin is right in the middle of the city centre, which makes it quite convenient. The place isn’t very big and has limited seating space. Food-wise, I’d say it was just okay not amazing, but not bad either. The prices are reasonable; for two people, we paid around £35, and it was filling enough. Overall, a decent spot if you’re in the area and want something quick, but not necessarily a must-visit.
TL;DR I would recommend a visit, but keep in mind seating may be limited due to the size of the venue. Review: Worth noting this is one of the smaller Wetherspoon venues you'll likely visit, and certainly the smallest in the area. And it is very likely that you won't find any seats free if you're looking for a sit down meal. This isn't a negative against the pub at all, as they can only do what they can with the space provided. But I'm putting this in the review in the hope it may help someone who is planning a visit to the area. There are a very limited number of seats outside (front and back) however I have never once seen these seats available. There are several other Wethrspoon venues nearby with more seating so consider this if searching specifically for a JD Wetherspoon. Again, this is not the fault of the venue I'm just making people aware. Although it was very busy when we visited, the food came quickly which was appreciated. However, the chips had been in a bit too long. The toilet cubicle doors did not lock on all stalls due to damage. So not ideal. Our table hadn't been cleaned when we sat down. There were no dishes but salt and other condiments had visibly been spilt. None of the staff seemed happy here, which is different from other Wetherspoon venues I've been to. Not sure if this is a coincidence. All in all I would recommend a visit, but keep in mind seating may be limited due to the size of the venue.
Great Weatherspoon's right in the heart of Liverpool, plenty of seating over 2 floors. The back doors open on to the Cavern crowd side roads . I have eaten there in the past and the food is good, good choice of real ales as you can except from spoons. I would definitely recommend this place for a pint and food stop refuel.
Clean Ladys Toilets upstairs. Good order via App, pay via app. Delicious food, fast service.
Great place to eat at such an affordable place. It was quite busy and the staff were amazing and did their best. The food was incredible it was so fast and was great I had a pizza and I could believe the value for money if I went to dominos for the same thing I would be paying some like £20 without a drink it was half that with a alcoholic drink. Incredible I downloaded the app order what I wanted and it was with me within 10 minutes crazy but lovely . Our table was a bit sticky but I ask the lady when our drinks were delivered and she gave it a quick wipe for us and all sorted so great service. And a nice place to eat without selling arm and leg.
Looks small outside but it has 2 floors and seating out the front and out the back very good
Got the Veg full english breakfast and was happy for the price. Can't beat a good breakfast at that £5 mark. And coffee, tea, mocha, or hot cocoa for another £1.35 or so (if memory serves). After feeling stumped on finding a good breakfast under £10 that wasn't McDonald's, glad a local pointed me to The Welkin. Chain restaurant? Sure. Good bang for you buck? Definitely. Oh and that's just breakfast. It's a proper bar with drinks but also food all day.
