From the very first meeting to the final result, working with Alice Piechocka at the Magnet Leith Walk branch was an absolute pleasure. Her dedication, care and attention to detail went far beyond our expectations. Alice supported us at every stage of the process, stayed in constant contact, and made us feel genuinely looked after throughout the entire journey. Her commitment to this project truly shows — we couldn’t have wished for better guidance or support. The kitchen itself is everything we dreamed of and more. The quality of Magnet’s materials is outstanding, the design is elegant and timeless, and the finishes look incredibly stylish. The matte fronts are not only beautiful but also very easy to keep clean, which makes a huge difference in everyday use. We are genuinely delighted with the final result and with the whole experience. Alice’s professionalism, passion and personal involvement made this project truly special. We cannot recommend her — or Magnet — highly enough.

I like the kitchen we have in the end. But much of the reason for this is ultimately what the contractors did to make the kitchen nice, as they improved on several things not considered well in the design. The materials from Magnet are good - but not great. They look nice, but the unit doors nearly all had tremendous amounts of glue at their seams sticking out. The contractors spend a lot of time peeling that away, and I also spend several hours peeling away stubborn bits, so the kitchen would actually look new. Some panels came broken - so replacements needed to be ordered. Our contractors took care of that brilliantly, but it didn't make me feel great about the materials. Also, design-wise I love the sink being mounted under the work top - but we weren't advised that the inner edges of the worktop above the sink wouldn't withstand water. They have already faded in colour and look many years old. You'd expect a kitchen designer would know what their worktops can and cannot do and would advise you accordingly. It means a key part of our kitchen already looks worn. So, overall, the materials from Magnet are good, but not great. I feel they are over-priced for what they are. But the worst bit was the service. Initially, we thought we got a good design consultation (by Stuart). And to be fair, some elements of the design are good. But, crucially, we weren't being treated honestly and ultimately ripped off. We opted to go with Magnet's contractor (who was EXCELLENT - please see below) and I asked explicitly about the costs on the quote we got for the work. I was told that this was the "cost of the contractor" except for the costs of the skip, flooring and any electric work that might have to be carried out. I explicitly asked how much I should expect to come on top and was told it was in the hundreds for the non-flooring costs. We had already gone over budget (which we discussed), so imagine my shock when I got the initial bill and it was over 2.4k + VAT. The contractor explained to me that of the amount I paid to Magnet they keep quite a large proportion. When I called to complain they said that, of course they do, because the guarantee the works for 2 years and have administrative costs. That's a big fee for it, but crucially, they lied to me beforehand, pretending that the money I paid them was the money for the contractor. When I asked about it explicitly, they withheld the information about them taking a very large cut of it. It's dishonest and it made me feel quite stupid and very angry. It's the first time I had a big project in the house, which we told Stuart. I hoped he would help us guide this well, but it turns out, it seemed like our inexperience was used. There was a patter n to this. When we were asked before about certain choices (rigid built vs assembled units/etc), we asked for an estimate of the price difference. While I appreciate that the full price comes when you get the quote, the rough estimate we were given for the units was in the range of 4.5-5-5k during the consultation. The amount (even all discounts were applied) in the quote was then around 7k (so while they gave us "discounts", they were from so high a base that they were meaningless). So basically, at each stage we were presented with significantly lower estimates first, while continuing to design it to then be hit with totally different dimensions in the quotes (first for the kitchen, then later the services). It's just plain dishonest and I am angry with myself for just trusting them to give me honest information. Additionally, we found several things discussed during the consultations not to be true in practice later: We were told that one could easily put ridges into the work top to create a dish draining space next to the sink - this work top didn't allow for that. Our hob was meant to allow for sections to be combined - but it doesn't. The only good thing: The contractors James W Alexander. They were amazing - but I'd suggest to go with them directly! I would advise to avoid this Magnet shop.

I haven’t used their kitchen services, but the staff were very helpful to me this morning in their advice of where to find an item, taking the trouble to look up the store’s address for me. Thank you! I found what I needed. (Sash cord at Thornbridge.)

Awful experience from designing it to dry fitting it. Expensive for absolutely no reason. I only went for it because I was tricked into paying a £500 deposit. Stay away!
