I ate here 2 times in a row! The staff here is so lovely. The ambient is also great! An amazing place to chill and watch the street outside. You can also charge your phone.
The food was an offence! We ordered a sausage roll. It came in a panini bread...with cheese !! A BLT came in a panini bread...with cheese again !! No mention of cheese on their menus of course! Who does that in the UK (apart from them obviously)?? Apparently it's a chef's favourite. They mustn't take any food and hygiene training and never heard of Natacha's law. I pointed the mistake out and got a sausage roll without cheese. A shame I didn't check the reviews before. Ladies toilet are a joke, doors don't lock. Even found an extinguisher blocking an anti fire door. This place should be inspected and given a warning at least. Reading reviews it seems it's been poor for a long time. Avoid if you read this review. (Service was ok but because of the lack of hygiene/safety I can't more for it)
I ordered a vanilla frappuccino (£6) and was told to wait while it was made. Then I noticed the staff taking ice out of a big yellow bucket with a lid, which already seemed a bit odd. What really put me off was that the bucket was sitting right under some BLT sandwiches in the fridge, and the sandwiches weren’t even covered. That just screams cross contamination to me, I don’t want ice for my drink stored anywhere near meat. I mentioned it to the staff but they didn’t really see what the issue was. I ended up refusing the drink and got a refund. I’m not trying to be fussy, but hygiene is really important, and this didn’t feel right at all.
Do NOT get the pancakes! I rarely write negative reviews, but this was so disappointing that I have to warn the next person. I got a cappuccino and pancakes (meant to come with maple syrup and pecan nuts) + bacon (£7 + £2). I received 5 tiny pancakes, literally cookie-sized, stacked in the middle of a plate covered in a watery syrup solution. No pecans. Overall the plate looked unappealing and kinda ridiculous. On top of that, one of the pancakes was burnt completely black...Soft, soggy and burnt- why would they even serve that? I couldn't eat that one. Cappuccino was more like a latte, watered down. Most tables in the upstairs area had leftovers all over, and the place smelled/felt humid. Ladies' toilet was out of order. The whole situation was so ridiculous/embarrassing I had to laugh. I'd say avoid this place overall, sorry :/
Big mistake visiting here. At first the staff didn’t take any notice of me when I entered so I stood there for awhile what the 2 ladies chatted until they attended me. I asked for an iced latte and double bacon roll. She gave me an order number and vanished, no thank you no nothing, kinda avoided social interaction. I found a seat and then hear the lady shouting latte at the other end of cafe, as soon I stand up she makes eye contact with me and vanishes again. There’s a latte waiting for me on the counter but it was hot latte (I asked for iced) and in a paper cup even tho I stated I was sitting in….? A latte from a Costa machine tastes better icl. Then I the lady was shouting over the radio “Bacon roll, bacon roll” basically a man couldn’t hear what she was saying over this radio for a good minute (kitchen was not next door?). Bacon roll arrived which was eh, don’t think there was any benefit getting the double. The “cafe” had a very weird vibe, it was a mix of a fish n chip x Indian restaurant. Definitely not the coffee shop vibe I was going for. Would not recommend to anyone, it is not a tourist trap on the Royal Mile :(
The place is very overpriced. £7.90 for a Caramel latte and an Oat milk cappuccino. If you are sitting in you don’t get a mug, only a take away cup. The place would look nice but the painting from the wall if falling down. The door always gets slammed if someone’s opening it, therefore you can not have a nice conversation when people are walking in and out.
Slightly overpriced. Service was not attentive and seating was scattered across two floors. Pancakes were great. It can be better being in such popular location.
Arrived at 5pm Fri. Very quiet and several staff. Just popped in for tea. Girl at counter a bit short and rude. Looked a bit surprised when we asked for semi skimmed milk and said they only had full fat. We sat down to wait for our drinks and despite the fact that they were doing very little, the shouted for us to go back up to the counter to collect them. Four members of staff then all started giggling and mucking about with a camera, taking several selfies and photos whilst being very noisy. Another customer came in and whilst one girl took her order the others ignored the fact she was there and carried on with their shenanigans. I am a local but if I was a tourist I would have been given a very disappointing impression of Edinburgh service.
We came in here early on a Thursday . It was one of the places open. Pleasant staff but typical low grade tourist food. Could be a great place due to the location but not, owners greedy practices no doubt
A nice little stop. Amazing staff and a friendly atmosphere for both guest and staff. The cakes looked amazing but wasn't tempted. Really well placed and would love to go back to try some of their food.
