New walking ground found, just 10 minutes away: Silver Lane Lakes, Croft. Picked this one up a couple of days ago, a site I'd never heard of before. It's an old landfill site that is gradually being turned into a nature reserve. Had a look round today and it's a handy local spot for walking, running, dog walking, etc and is eminently suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Several large deep lakes that looks like a birdwatcher"s paradise too, though you can't get too close to most, other than at the northwest side. There's a small parking area just yards left off Junction 11 and tracks are wide and firm and access is via a metal style. Most of the main gates around are locked to deter fly tipping and travellers. I've noticed that there are no benches or seating of any kind and no shelter so take your waterproof if the weather looks iffy and something to sit on if you plan to spend time birdwatching. Stick to the double line paths as some of the paths on the map are dead ends! There's no topography on the OS map but it's basically a central hill that affords good views all round. Very much a work in progress, perhaps soon we might see benches or observation hides, but a brilliant local spot for a weekend bimble.

Quiet, sedate area great for birdwatching. Have spotted foxes on occasion. Silver Lakes is typical of a former industrial area reclaimed by Mother Nature. The lakes are fenced off and off limits. Not a popular spot as can be awkward to access, no nearby parking, no mobile cafes just silence, serenity and the occasional wildlife.

Nice walk, a little small around the lakes and it can get muddy. But the dogs love undergrowth. Lovely in the summer

A lovely place to unwind and enjoy nature either dog walking ,cycling or just just enjoying the scenery and wildlife and a bonus of the water fowl to enjoy on the 4 big ponds it has
