A beautiful location walking distance to shopping and public transportation. After a busy day, there is nothing better than relaxing in the spa and enjoying the backyard. Rooms are very comfortable, kitchen is well equipped, and you feel pampered and taken care of. A wonderful way to experience Scotland!
The Old Millhouse is a wonderful home in Dalkeith that is perfect for a large family gathering. We had the best week exploring the area & enjoying all that this home has to offer. The setting is pastoral, the gardens beautiful & the amenities perfect for a relaxing vacation while being close to Edinburgh, St. Andrews & other golf courses in the area. Sally will take care of any request her guests have. Definitely recommend & would love to return!
We shared a most wonderful Christmas in this beautiful home! We live in Sydney, Australia and had travelled to Scotland for a long overdue family Christmas. The Old Millhouse was a reminder of Christmases past: warm and inviting, so beautifully decorated and all that we wished it would be. What a beautifully relaxing experience it was to stay at The Old Millhouse in Dalkeith, Scotland. Her deep local knowledge and thoughtful recommendations for tours and scenic spots made each day feel rich with discovery. It was a joy to explore the area, knowing we could return to the comfort and serenity of The Old Millhouse. Whether soaking in the hydrotherapy tub under the stars or curling up in the cozy snug with a drink in hand, we always found the perfect place to unwind. The Orangery was a particular highlight for me—its bright, open design offered stunning views of the surrounding land, where we were lucky enough to spot deer and other local wildlife. Our stay at The Old Millhouse was truly unforgettable. It’s a place that combines luxury and charm with the natural beauty of Scotland—made even more special by Sally’s genuine hospitality. I can’t recommend it highly enough for anyone seeking a peaceful, beautiful retreat.

Excellent stay with family at the Old Millhouse in Dalkeith. Sally is wonderful and helped make our stay really special. The house is beautiful and has everything you might need. Edinburgh is not far, but the house is so lovely, why leave? Would definitely visit again when in Edinburgh with a group.
Just spent a lovely long weekend here and it's a real gem. Just 20 mins from Edinburgh and all this wonderful city has to offer, and really good for some lovely golf courses, should have brought my clubs. This house is immaculate and has gorgeous and spacious living rooms. The bedrooms are all comfy and fully kitted out. Finally they are installing a spa pool and outside leisure area which will be ready for the better weather in the spring. A revisit is on the cards.
We just got back from a family trip to Scotland, and can’t say enough positive things about our stay at the Old Mill house. We had a group of 10, and the elegant house provided luxurious accommodations for all. The setting was magical, surrounded by a creek, and next to a nature preserve the lead to a beautiful ancient abbey next to a river. The commute to Edinburgh was easy, and we made several day trips to the city, as well as St Andrews and the British Open. Sally was a very accommodating host, even providing a lasagna to begin our stay. Sally was on site, and quick to answer questions and find us transportation. We would definitely recommend this house, and would love to return one day!
Staying at The Old Millhouse was a wonderful experience. The house has been furnished to a very high standard and with exquisite taste. It has a five star luxurious feel to it, with a relaxing feeling of home. Sally was on hand to make our stay extra special - she is very welcoming, knowledgeable of the area and an extraordinary cook to boot. We stayed for an event at the house, which was one of the best weddings I have ever attended, every detail was taken care of and the setting was simply stunning. It is hard to believe you are so close to Edinburgh as it feels like you are in the middle of the countryside but have all conveniences at your fingertips. Thank you Sally for making the stay at the Old Millhouse one of our most enjoyable visits to the UK.
