Great studio and teachers. Workouts are tough but you feel amazing afterwards!

I've been going to the Pole Studio Balham since summer 2024 and I've progressed so much! I love that they have multiple classes a week. I've tried all of the instructors and they're all great. They have different styles of teaching, but the common thread is that they're all effective and encouraging. The prices are the best I've seen and the location is great for me to get to, so I feel able to prioritise my pole practice. I think they're able to keep prices low because they have a space within a community centre. It doesn't look like much, but the value of the classes far outweighs this in my opinion. I've been to studios that looked nice, but were lacking where it counted. I'd much prefer strong, accessible classes to a "cute" studio. In short, I'm so grateful to have found the Pole Studio and am excited each week to go to class and see what I'm capable of.

I have taken pole dance classes in many countries so I know how teachers usually teach. I found the teacher was rude and lazy. At all the pole dance studios I’ve been to before, the instructors always demonstrated the moves and showed us how to do them. I’ve taken pole dance classes in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, and it was the same everywhere. But here, the instructor rarely shows any tricks only occasionally doing a simple one and mostly just explains things verbally. It made me wonder if she’s just being lazy. There were 5 or 6 poles but there are more people than poles that are in the studio so some of them had to share the pole with others which I have never seen in any studio that I found weird. I didn’t think the teacher was friendly and I felt uncomfortable to be around her to be honest because the way she talked to me was not nice and I felt I was told off and felt I was judged by her. The girls who were there were nice but there are so many pole dance studio in London so I don’t have to go there if I’m not comfortable because we are paying to take a class to enjoy but I didn’t enjoy it to be honest. This studio was the closest from my place so I wish the teacher was nice so the studio would have been the one I would go every week so it’s just disappointing.

The pole studio balham is currently one of my favourite places to be! Classes are pretty cheap and the instructors are lovely and encouraging, especially Sandra whose classes I’m mainly in and Laurinda who I’ve had a couple classes with.

Awesome studio, have been going regularly for over 6 months now and all the teachers are great, the atmosphere is really nice and you get to both have fun and train. I’d recommend to everyone to try it out!

Don’t know what the other person reviewing the studio experienced but it sounds pretty far off from reality. Yes, there are certain rules you need to adhere to in the very beginning for your safety(no jumping or inverting until you are ready)but I’d say progress is very very fast for the vast majority of students. The instructor I have had, in beginner, intermediate and advanced classes, Nausica, is highly competent and always adjusts the class according to the level of fitness of the students. I very much look forward to her classes and there is always a challenge and growth.

I found the teacher highly unprofessional, patronising and rude. She lacked enthusiasm and energy making the classes rather dull. I envisioned that pole classes would be fun, challenging and make you feel empowered, confident and sexy. Rather, the classes weren't stimulating at all. Whilst I appreciate that they have chosen to deliver classes with a clear structure covering specific moves for each session. They do not seek to challenge individuals depending on their abilities to improve their performance. The structure is extremely rigid and designed to ensure your progress is slow so that you are committed to enrolling on all their courses which is obviously more profitable for them. It is quite an unwelcoming atmosphere and her level of professionalism is greatly dependant on her mood / mood swings. Since leaving these classes I have joined Ecole de pole in Camden which isn't local but brilliant! Within 2 sessions you can already see the remarkable difference! So in a nutshell I'd rather travel from South London to North London and pay more to get better quality classes. Personally, I wouldn't waste your money with The Pole Studio Balham and suggest seeking an alternative.
